Remember The Past 22
Israel “crossed”
This is a covenant loaded word that is used repeatedly to highlight God’s faithfulness to bring His people into promise.
These stones were to tell the story of what God has done for his people in the past.
These stone with physical reminders of divine intervention see verse 7
What he has done!
Memorial stones were common but what made Israels different was that these stones did not honor an earthly king but Yahweh’s saving power.
1 Samuel 7:12 NKJV
Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”
Psalm 105:5 NKJV
Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,
Realize The Present 23
“The Lord YOUR God”
“The Lord YOUR God”
He isn’t just the God of the past…
He isn’t just the God of your parents…
He isn’t just the God of your grandparents…
He is YOUR God.
Joshua is connect the present generation with the works of God in the past.
God is with us here and now!

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

That all people may know, who don’t yet know.
These stones were to be a testimony for the generations in the future who haven’t been born yet...
Psalm 78:6 NKJV
That the generation to come might know them, The children who would be born, That they may arise and declare them to their children,
Theses stones were to be a testimony for those who have not yet heard the gospel.
Israel had Memorial Stones
Disciples had the empty Tomb
We have the Lord’s Supper
These stones were placed for those who had not yet heard of experienced and we too have the cross and empty tomb for those who have not yet heard or experienced salvation.
