MAKE ROOM

OPENING — SETTING THE TONE (ATTENTION)

Opening Thought: Most of us want God to move… but few of us think about whether our lives actually have space for Him to move.
We pray for more. We ask for breakthrough. But we rarely stop and ask: Is there room for what I’m asking God to do?
Transition Line: Isaiah 54 opens with a surprising command—not a promise.

INTRODUCE THE TEXT — GOD’S FIRST INSTRUCTION (TENSION)

Isaiah 54:2 “Enlarge your house; build an addition. Spread out your home, and spare no expense!”
this verse moves from promise to preparation.
In Verse 1 God speaks to a barren nation and promises fruitfulness.
After commanding praise in verse 1, God now tells His people to make room for what He is about to do.
“Enlarge the place of your tent” and “stretch your tent curtains wide” are instructions to think bigger, believe bigger, and remove self-imposed limits.
Observation: God does not start with explanation. He starts with instruction.
He doesn’t say what is coming. He says, make room.
Key Thought: God often moves before He explains.

I. GOD OFTEN MOVES BEFORE HE EXPLAINS (TRUTH)

Explanation:
Faith is rarely given full clarity up front. God tests obedience before He reveals outcomes.
If God waited until we understood everything, we’d never step forward.
Hebrews 11:8 “It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.”
Key Line: Faith prepares without full information.
Transition Line: But making room isn’t just about intention—it requires action.

II. MAKING ROOM REQUIRES REMOVAL (TENSION → HONESTY)

Explanation:
You cannot enlarge what is already crowded.
Growth doesn’t begin with addition. It begins with subtraction.
God doesn’t pile His purposes on top of clutter.
Examples of “crowding”:
Distractions that consume attention
Comfort zones that resist change
Routines God never assigned
Spiritual clutter we’ve normalized
Matthew 6:33Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
Key Line: God does not compete for space—He occupies what is surrendered.
Pause Here Let the weight of removal settle.
Transition Line: This is where many people stop—not because they don’t believe, but because they’re waiting to feel ready.

III. MAKING ROOM IS A FAITH RESPONSE, NOT A FEELING (TRUTH)

Explanation:
You don’t make room because you feel confident.
You make room because you trust God.
Preparation is faith in action.
Illustration (Brief): You don’t rearrange a room after guests arrive. You prepare because you expect them.
2 Kings 4:1–7 — The widow brought empty vessels first.
Key Line: Faith moves furniture before guests arrive.

STORY MOMENT (CONNECTION)

Choose ONE story prompt:
Friends of ours were expecting a baby and needed to make room. They had a man cave where they had a pool table. She ended up giving us that pool table to make room for the baby. Im sure that clearing things out was hard. Sometimes making room requires us to be uncomfortable.
Bridge Line: They didn’t remove the pool table because it was bad, but because what was coming mattered more.

PERSONAL APPLICATION — TURN INWARD (REFLECTION)

Ask slowly. Allow silence.
What is taking up space in my life that God never asked for?
What would I have to remove to make room for God?
If God moved suddenly, would my life have space for Him?
Key Line: Preparation reveals expectation.

CLOSING — LEAVING HOLY TENSION (ANTICIPATION)

Closing Statement: I don’t know everything God is doing. But I know this—God is asking His people to make room.
Not later. Not once everything is clear. But now.
Seed for Next Week (without revealing):
Because after God asks us to make room… He always asks us to stretch.
