Genesis 3:1-5

3 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”

4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

📖 2 Corinthians 2:11 (KJV)

“Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.”

🔍 Meaning & Context

“Devices” (Greek: noēmata) means schemes, purposes, strategies, or mind-games.
Paul is warning believers not to be outwitted or exploited by Satan through:
Unforgiveness
Bitterness
Division in the church
Deception and subtle manipulation
In the immediate context (2 Corinthians 2:6–11), Paul is talking about forgiving a repentant believer, warning that refusing forgiveness gives Satan an opening.

🛡️ What Satan’s “devices” look like in Scripture

Here are common patterns the Bible identifies:
Deception – Genesis 3:1–5; John 8:44
Accusation & condemnation – Revelation 12:10
Pride – 1 Timothy 3:6
Unforgiveness – Matthew 18:34–35
Disguising evil as good – 2 Corinthians 11:14
Spiritual dullness & distraction – 2 Corinthians 4:4

🧠 Why Paul says “we are NOT ignorant”

Believers are not meant to be naïve or passive. Scripture teaches:
Awareness without fear
Discernment without obsession
Authority through Christ, not self-effort

🗡️ Related Scriptures

Ephesians 6:11 – “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
1 Peter 5:8 – “Be sober, be vigilant…”
James 4:7 – “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

✝️ Key Takeaway

Paul’s message is simple but powerful:
Ignorance gives the enemy advantage. Truth, forgiveness, and spiritual awareness shut the door.
If you’d like, I can:
Break down the Greek word study more deeply
Connect this to modern spiritual warfare
Tie it into end-times deception or church division themes
James Lensy Athiest Agnostic- He said because of evil I’m starting to believe in the devil. If Satan then God.
If there is evil it is because something good exist. Evil is the lack of good. Its like when you take all the cancer out of a body you get a better body. but if you take the body out of the cancer you have nothing, because the cancer lives off the body. But cancer is evil. Evil is the lack of a good thing, evil can not exist on its own.
The standard for good is God. and if not then everything is opinion.
How do we know it was bad for Alabama to lose 38-3 and Georgia 39-34 because the objective is to win.
Objective to life is to have Purpose. Satan lie is to steal your purpose. But God created you with Inteligent Design for a purpose.
The Universe is so complex if you change one ingredient it does not exist. The world is so very large set up of so many things that the math is incrediable that it could have came from nothing.
