Luke 8:43–48 KJV 1900
43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, 44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. 45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? 46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. 47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. 48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.

Introduction

Today’s passage is from the perspective of Luke the physician. Luke’s terminology and perspective is different from Mark’s perspective not only because Luke is a physician but in Luke 1:2 “2 just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us,” Luke is an eyewitness with his accounts. There are some questions about the authorship of Mark. I am not here to discredit the Book of Mark because the book of Mark shares some details that the other gospels don’t share. I want to speak from the perspective of a doctor this morning. Unfortunately, my college degree is in business. If you were in need of a carpenter, I don’t believe you would call a doctor.
The Woman with the issue of blood has been admired for centuries for demonstrating faith and determination. Very seldom do we talk about what this woman had to deal with. Because she was dealing with an issue of blood, she could not go to church, she must have used to be rich because for 12 years she was able to go to the doctor and pay her bill, but now her account has been closed out. She cannot sign up for a loan, she cannot sign up for Obama Care, and you know how it is when you miss a few Sunday’s in church, folk start treating you funny. This woman was desperate, discouraged, and determined. One day while walking along, she heard about Dr. Jesus. I submit to you this morning that people will look at your glory but they don’t know your story.

Ignorance Luke 8:43-44

The woman has been dealing with this issue of blood for 12 years
She has spent all of her money.
She continues to go to the doctor and getting the same results. They could not heal her
The definition of insanity is to continue to do the same thing and get the same results
I want to show you that money wasn’t the problem. We admire her faith, but the problem started twelve years ago.
She was ignorant.
Dr. Martin Luther King once said “Nothing in the world is more dangerous than Sincere Ignorance, and Conscientious Stupidity.”
Ignorant means to have a lack of understanding and knowledge. One of the fastest growing denominations in America is the church of ignorance.
God Is Faithful: A Daily Invitation into the Father Heart of God (January 25: Filled with the Spirit) There is a story about a poor farmer who faithfully worked his small acreage, tilling the rocky soil for decades. At the farmer’s death, the farm was passed down to his son. One day while plowing, the son found a gold-streaked nugget. He had it appraised and was told it was pure gold. The young man soon discovered that the farm was full of gold. Instantly he became a wealthy man. Yet that wealth was lost on his father, even though it was on his land for the entirety of his life. So it is with the Holy Spirit. Many of us live in ignorance of what we have, of the power that resides in us. Some Christians live their entire lives thinking they have all the Holy Spirit brings, yet they truly have not received Him in His fullness and power. He is not accomplishing in them the eternal work He was sent to do. Let God’s Spirit fill and empower you. He is there to accomplish all of God’s purposes in you!
Hosea 4:66 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”
Proverbs 13:1818 Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction, But he who regards a rebuke will be honored.” She was broke because she had no one to correct her. And if anyone here ever had to earn a College Degree and go and work for minimum wage this can be shameful.
She was ignorant of the depth and height of the Love of Jesus, because even though she has never come face to face with Jesus if she understood His love then she would not have tried to steal a cure by touching His garment. This was actually an act of superstition and not an act of faith.
Faith is Hebrews 11:1 “1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
She said, “If I could touch the hem of His garment.” She was walking by sight and not faith.
Point: Whenever you are miserable, then you must come face to face with mercy. Hebrews 4:16 “16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
We know that according to the law she could not come in contact with anyone because she was considered unclean.
I can see the woman 12 years ago trying to come to the church and they whooped her with the law about uncleaness.
But my brothers and sisters today, I Thank God for Dr. Jesus. Because Grace and Truth by way of James 5:14 “14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.”
Has anyone ever had to call on Dr. Jesus?

Intentionally Luke 4:45-46

Jesus says, “Somebody has touched me”
Peter says, Jesus we are walking through this crowd on our way to Jairus house and are you really asking who touched you. It could be anyone.
This woman teaches us a lesson about being in the presence of the LORD.
When you are intentional when you approach the throne of grace and mercy, then things will begin to change immediately in your life.
1 John 1:9 “9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Jesus asked who touched me. (Now Jesus is all knowing, and he asked this question)
Some people in the crowd were not looking for nothing.
Some people joined the crowd because there was a big commotion
Somebody joined the crowd because there was some good singing.
You can be near Jesus and still not come in contact with Him.
Q. Are you just coming to church to be in the crowd? Or are you coming to touch Dr. Jesus?
Then Jesus acknowledge that something happened.
Point: “Sometimes we deal with situation longer than we should in private, but when you are intentional then remember that our God needs to get the glory publically.”
This does not mean go on Social Media and your Facebook page.
Psalm 34:3 “3 Oh, magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together.”
Matthew 5:16 “16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Jesus asked the question so that the Woman could publicly confess Christ and Glorify God

Now you have a Testimony Luke 4:47-48

Now that the woman notices that she has been exposed, then she falls down and trembles. What she was trying to do in private, Jesus has exposed her publically.
Now she has a Tremble and a Testimony. Now, tremble means to shake in fear or excitement.
She went behind Jesus like a Crook but when He exposed her He Cured her.
She went to Jesus and was broke, but when He exposed her He made her whole.
When she went to Jesus she was testing Him, but when He exposed her she now has a Testimony
When she came to Jesus, she was ignorant, but when Jesus exposed her, He told her to go in peace
Someone went to school for 12 years and you are still struggling
Someone working on a job for 12 years and you still have not received that promotion
Someone been in a marriage for 12 years and you still have to wonder if your spouse loves you
Someone been in church on the back pew for 12 years, and you still don’t know what to do.
Someone spending time in a relationship with your high school sweetheart for 12 years, and you are wondering why you are still not married. (Getting the cake and eating it too)
Like the woman today, I recommend you to stop wasting your time and money on those Doctors and make an appointment today with Dr. Jesus.
Dr. Jesus can cure a broken heart
He can sew up your money pockets
He can lift burdens
I came to Jesus ....
