We don’t change to become who God wants us to be. We change because God has already said who we are. Identity doesn’t follow obedience. Obedience flows from identity.

Series Intro: I’ll Do It Tomorrow
But today I’m not giving you a 3 point how to list. Do these 3 things and you’ll lose 10 lbs, you know. We’re discussing the harder battle… the battle in your mind before action happens. So today we’re talking about winning the war in our minds.
Message Title: You Already Are

ME: Identity before effort

Christmas Meal Moment / Aria learning Spanish
Her Assumption: I’m learning Spanish so I can become Puerto Rican.
And I realized—this is exactly how many of us approach our faith when it comes to change.
We try to change in order to become something. But then we push it off because it’s hard.

We: A lot of us live our Christian life like this without realizing…

We say things like: - I’ll deal with that sin later, I can’t quit this right now… - I’ll start studying the Bible when life slows down… - I’ll work on my patience eventually… - One of these days I’m going to really change that particular thing in my life…
We essentially keep postponing Obedience because we think change is something we have to work our way into.
Basically instead of acting like who we already are. We try to become something first. And that’s the problem.
When change is something you have to do so that you become something one day… you push it for tomorrow. Because pushing it to tomorrow is easier than dealing with it today.
But what if the reason we fail to change isn’t because it’s impossible… but because we’ve misunderstood who we actually are in the first place?

God:

Judges 6:1-2 - Isrealites did evil at one point
Judges 6:3—4 - Whenever they planted crops, the enemies would invade and ruin them.
Judges 6:11 - Now Gideon is operating according to who he thinks he is. He’s a man in a land of scared people who live in fear.
Judges 6:12 - But God flips the switch when He calls Gideon a mighty warrior (man of valor). He shows him his true identity. What he IS.
God does not call you by your behavior. He calls you by your identity.
Now Gideon questions it and God’s response is interesting
Judges 6:13—14 - Go in the strength you have. Not the strength you’ll have later. The strength you have now because of who you are.
Gideon goes on to win the battle and conquer the enemies. Because that’s how change works… it starts by knowing who you are.
That was Gideon’s story & Gideon’s calling… but God’s word tells you alot about who you are as well. And I believe that knowing and remembering who you are is the key to lasting spiritual change.
Ephesians 2:10 - Tells us that we are God’s creation. Created to do good things.
Ephesians 1:7 - Tells us that we are redeemed… if we belong to Jesus, because of the blood He shed… We are redeemed NOW. Not tomorrow.
1 Corinthians 6:20 - Say’s it slightly different. You’re bought with a price. You’re worth it to God.
2 Corinthians 5:17 - You are a NEW CREATION. Your past is not you anymore.
1 Corinthians 3:16 - God dwells within you and through you. Godliness is who you are because the spirit of God is within you.

You: If that is true…

then the question isn’t Can You Change… The question is… “Are you living in alignment with who God already says you are?
You might have carried a struggle, an addiction, a sin, or an attitude into 2026… but you don’t change in order to be free. God’s Word says freedom is already yours.
There are things God is calling you to walk away from now… not because you’re strong enough… but because you already belong to Him.”
White knuckling - That shift in thinking is a breakthrough.
VR Headset - You gotta win the battle in your mind.

We: As a church that means we step into a different way of living

In this church: We don’t delay obedience - we do it today because of who we are. We don’t try to become holy - we are holy, so we live like it today.” We don’t plan to stop sinning someday - we run from it now, because we’re made in God’s image.”
This series is NOT about trying to change harder… it’s about believing and knowing deeper who you are.
We’re not christians who say “I’ll just do it tomorrow… I’ll just try harder tomorrow…” NOOO We’re Christian’s who say “I know who I am…So I’m going to walk in alignment today.”

Alter Call:

If you want to realign with who God says you are…
If you need to align yourself for the first time with who God says you are…
