2 Timothy 1:1–18 “Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God according to the promise of the life that is in Christ Jesus, To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me. Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you. You are aware that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains, but when he arrived in Rome he searched for me earnestly and found me— may the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that day!—and you well know all the service he rendered at Ephesus.”

Believers are called to Fan into Flame the gift that God has given you
Stay focused, fan into flame the gift God has given you.
2 Timothy 1:6–7 “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
The gift Paul is likely referring too is the gift of preaching/church leadership
God has given each believer unique and different gifts. Weather its leading worship, preaching or hospitality whatever it is they all serve God and his kingdom in some way.
We are called to use the gifts God has given us and use them well. The Lord gives confidence, power and self control so that the church family can use these gifts well.

How do we know what our gift is? The Lord will give you passion, talent and desire.
Through prayer and practice it will become prevalent what your gifts are.

Believers are called to a Holy Calling to serve the Lord in ministry.
Every believer is called to the Holy Calling of Ministry
2 Timothy 1:8–10 “Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,”
Vocational ministry means its your paid carrier and lay means the latter.
Not every believer is called to serve God vocationally but as I look around this room i’ll be honest, I see a lot of future Pastors, Preachers, and Missionaries.
I can not quench the spirit, it is my job to stand here honestly and proclaim that there is something different going on in the hearts and minds of the young men in this room. The Lord is working in this place calling out to you saying the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.

Matthew 9:35–38 “And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
There are so many lost sheep in our town who need you to tell them about the Gospel. Maybe God hasn't called you to be a pastor but he has called you into ministry.
Ministry means serving the Lord.
Every believer is called into Ministry because every believer is called to follow sound doctrine, when you do you are serving the Lord.

Our purpose and mission in life, our Holy Calling is to follow and apply Sound Doctrine.
Believers are called to a Holy Calling which is to follow and apply sound doctrine, which only comes from Scripture.
Sola Scripturea - we look to Scripture alone. Scripture is the supreme court of our life and trumps our feelings. Scripture dictates every aspect of our life.
Get this, when we follow and apply scripture to our lives its actually an act of worship, service and obedience to God.
