Introduction

Background

In Jewish tradition, the day starts at sunset; biblical hours divide daylight into 12 parts, so the 9th hour is roughly 3 PM, a significant time for prayer (Mincha) and miracles

The 12th hour marks sunset, signaling the end of the day and beginning of the new one (evening watch)

These hours aren't fixed clock times but relative to sunrise/sunset, marking key prayer times and temple events.

1st Hour: Sunrise, 3rd Hour 9 am, 6th Hour: Noon, 9th Hour: 3 pm, 12th Hour: Sunset

Significant Biblical Events that happened in the 9th hour

The evening sacrifice of a lamb without blemish along with grain and wine for atonement of daily sins

Old Testament prophets, such as Elijah on Mount Carmel and Daniel in Babylon, offered significant prayers that were answered by God.

The Death of Jesus Christ: According to the Gospels, Jesus died on the cross at the ninth hour, after a period of supernatural darkness covered the land from the sixth hour (noon)

The Healing of the Lame Man: The apostles Peter and John went to the temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer, where Peter miraculously healed a man who had been lame from birth. This was the first apostolic miracle after Pentecost.

Cornelius' Vision: A Roman centurion named Cornelius, a devout man, had a vision of an angel of God at the ninth hour, which led to the pivotal event of the Gospel being opened to the Gentiles.
