Teaching What We Already Know

Peter acknowledged that his readers not only knew the truth, but were well established in it
He was not writing to novice Christians or targeting babes in Christ, yet he was teaching the fundamentals of Christianity
We can never think ourselves too mature/knowledgeable for the fundamental teachings of the faith
There are far too many opportunities to slip, and we are called to a life of extreme caution and sobriety (Prov. 4:20-27)
This guards us from the horrific dangers of deception and falling -> may we never let the grace of God soften our vigilance
While God is abundantly gracious, that grace is given to us that we may avoid falling in the first place (1 Pet. 5:8-11)

That We May Be Stirred Up

We need to be put in continual remembrance so we will be “stirred up”
This is not emotionalism, but means to be “woken up” -> we are too often lulled to sleep by this world
Being so easily rocked to sleep, we need a continual jolt to wake us up (1 Thess. 5:1-11)
It is normal to experience spiritual “waves” -> It is normal to need reminders of things
Just keep seeking those reminders, putting yourself in a position to be lifted up by the body of Christ

Because Our Tents Are Frail

Peter also sees a need to teach what they are already grounded in because his tent is frail
There was only so much time for him to strengthen the body in his unique role God placed him in
This is a beautiful attitude of service to God!
You only have so much time to fill others with the knowledge of God, and you need to respond accordingly
First, by filling yourself with knowledge to bestow and not waste opportunity to grow in the Spirit and in wisdom
Second, by sharing that knowledge with those you have the ability to do so with
You will not live forever, nor will you always be able to do what you can do right now
Redeem the time (Eph. 5:15-16)!
