As we begin today, I thought it might be grand in the intro to spend a few minutes reading some N.T. verses on unity before we read the Psalm which has unity as its focus:
1 Corinthians 1:10 ESV
10 I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.
2 Corinthians 13:11 ESV
11 Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.
John 13:35 ESV
35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Philippians 2:2 ESV
2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.
Romans 14:19 ESV
19 So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.
John 17:23 ESV
23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
Psalm 133 ESV
A Song of Ascents. Of David. 1 Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! 2 It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! 3 It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

Live As An Example of The Trinity!

Psalm 133:1 ESV
1 Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!
John 17:20–23 ESV
20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
So First, Live As An Example of the Trinity.
Secondly

Bare the Aroma of God!

Psalm 133:2 ESV
2 It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes!
Psalm 133:3 ESV
3 It is like the dew of Hermon,...
I currently have a goatee: but some of you have a beard.
I do not currently use a beard oil, but if I grow a full beard again I will.
No, the sermon is not about men’s grooming, but it is about the impressive aroma of the presence of God.
The anointing oil would have a specific aromatic: myrrh, cinnamon, calamus, cassia, olive oil, and even saffron.
The imagery of this text is the imagery of the oil over the head of Aaron, running down the beard to the collar of his robe.
Exodus 30:25 ESV
25 And you shall make of these a sacred anointing oil blended as by the perfumer; it shall be a holy anointing oil.
Exodus 30:30 ESV
30 You shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests.
You see the priest would bare the aroma of being consecrated unto the Lord.
You might get a hint of this aroma having been near Him.
He also uses the the easily described place called Mt. Hermon...Mt. Hermon is in the north east of Israel and is the tallest mountain in the country.
When you compare the climate of the North (humid) to the southern are of Jerusalem (dry arid) you know. So there is something real about waking up with the dew of the morning. We should note that Hermon rises 9000 feet about sea level and the melting snow from here is where much of the water of the Jordan comes from.
Live as an example of the Trinity.
Bare the aroma of God.
and thirdly;

Rest In His Eternal Promise.

Psalm 133:3 ESV
3 ... For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.
The reason we rejoice is the eternal promise of God.
John 17:24 ESV
24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
