13 Now to Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a share among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, namely, Kirjath Arba, which is Hebron (Arba was the father of Anak). 14 Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak from there: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak. 15 Then he went up from there to the inhabitants of Debir (formerly the name of Debir was Kirjath Sepher). 16 And Caleb said, “He who attacks Kirjath Sepher and takes it, to him I will give Achsah my daughter as wife.” 17 So Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it; and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife. 18 Now it was so, when she came to him, that she persuaded him to ask her father for a field. So she dismounted from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you wish?” 19 She answered, “Give me a blessing; since you have given me land in the South, give me also springs of water.” So he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

CALEB ACTED BY FAITH
Caleb was a Kenizzite, not an Israelite
14 Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel.
The Kenizzites were likely descendants of Edom (Esau).
It could be that some of the Kenizzites integrated with Israel before the conquest of Canaan, joining God’s people during the exodus from Egypt (see Exodus 12:37–38). It’s also possible that the Kenizzites were associated with Israel earlier, and that they had gone to Egypt with Jacob and his family to escape the famine in Canaan (Genesis 46).
FAITH IS WHAT TRULY MATTERS!
Caleb was one of the original 12 spies
Caleb and Joshua were the only 2 spies that brought back a good report (Numbers 13:27-33).
The other 10 spies were fearful of the giants (sons of Anak, or the Anakim) in the land.
As a result, God only allowed Caleb and Joshua to enter the Promised Land from that generation.
Now 45 years later, Caleb takes possession of the same land where the giants dwelt
THOSE WHO TRUST IN GOD’S PROMISES WILL RECIEVE!
Caleb had to act on the promise
Caleb requested his inheritance (Joshua 14:6-15).
Joshua 15:14 says that Caleb drove out the 3 sons of Anak.
WE MUST DRIVE OUT THE GIANTS!
OTHNIEL ACTED BY FAITH
Caleb made a vow
Whoever could defeat and take control of Kirjath Sepher (Debir), he would give his daughter Achsah to marry.
Othniel stepped forward by faith and took control of Kirjath Sepher
Caleb followed through with his vow and gave his daughter Achsah to marry.
Othniel becomes the first of the judges of Israel mentioned in the book of Judges (Judges 3).
He leads Israel to victory over the king of Mesopotamia.
WE MUST COMMIT TO THE MISSION!
ACHSAH ACTED BY FAITH
Caleb gave a portion of his inheritance to his daughter Achsah
It was the area of the Negev (southern Judah).
The Negev was arid and dry and water was scarce.
Achsah knew she needed water to sustain life in the Negev.
So she requested of her father Caleb, “Give me also the springs of water.”
She wasn’t satisfied, she wanted more.
GOD HAS MORE IN STORE!
Caleb not only gave Achsah the water to survive, but the water to thrive
Caleb gave Achsah the upper springs and the lower springs.
The upper springs was the water from the mountains.
The lower springs was the water in the valley.
JESUS CAME THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE LIFE AND LIFE MORE ABUNDANLY!

JESUS OFFERS LIVING WATER TODAY!
10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” 11 The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? 12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?” 13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
It is the water that satisfies the thirst of your soul!
It is the water that will give you life!
WHY DON’T YOU COME TO JESUS AND TAKE A DRINK!
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS A RIVER OF LIVING WATER!
37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Are you thirsty for more of the Lord?
1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
pant [עָרַג] [ʿāraḡ] [aw-rag'] = “to long for”
“When shall I come and appear before God?” = I can’t wait to talk to Him, worship Him, praise Him, sing to Him, pray to Him, be in His presence!
Out of your heart will flow rivers of living water!
The infilling, overflowing life-giving power of the Holy Spirit is available to all who believe in Jesus!
It does not matter how much you have, God always has more in store!
God will not only:
Fill you, He will overflow you!
Give you a drop, He will give you a river!
Give you enough to survive, He will give you enough to thrive!
Ask and Receive!
9 “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 11 If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
Ask, Seek, Knock!
The Greek verbs for "ask," "seek," and "knock" in Luke (and Matthew) are in the present imperative,
Strongly indicates continuous, persistent, and ongoing action.
Means "keep on asking," "keep on seeking," and "keep on knocking."
Not just a single, one-time request.
Urges perseverance in prayer and seeking God's will.
Jesus promises: if you want the Holy Spirit, He will give it to you, if you ask.
