Night 2
Set apart for a transformative loving relationship with God (2 Cor 3:18)
Set apart to live for Christ (loving God and others) (Romans 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:9; Ephesians 2:10; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5; John 17:16-19; 1 Thessalonians 5:23)
Eternal Life Starts Right Now (Knowing God starts right now) John 17:3, 1 John 5:13
The adventure of Sanctification (Jesus setting us apart for Himself, transforming us by the Holy Spirit into His image)
Now we can know God and spend time with Him, we can know the person who saved us from ourselves
-> Every Healthy Relationship involves
Jesus lived the life we were meant to live (We are set free to live His life now), He is the model (1 Peter 2:21-22)
Commitment (John 5:20 - > Jesus was committed to His Father; Luke 18:22 -> Jesus wants our whole life)
Communication / Conversation (John 12:49-50 -> Jesus talked with His Father; Psalms 145:18)
Love -> (John 15:9 -> Jesus loved His Father, and He loves us too)
Time - > (Matthew 14:23 -> Jesus made intentional time to be alone with God the Father)
When we gaze upon Christ, in spending time with Him and being His, He transforms us to look like Himself.
Set apart to live for Christ (Knowing Him will lead us to living like Him)
John 14:15 -Let’s wrestle with this verse
What Jesus is not saying -> You better keep my commandments or you don’t really love me
What Jesus is saying -> If you love me you will want to keep my commandments, and you will keep them.
What are His commandments?
1 John 3:23 -> Believe Him and love others
How do we love one another?
1 John 3:16-18 -> Loving others in the same way Jesus did, laying our life down for them.
Lie -> Once we are saved we have to “get good” and follow all the rules perfectly in our own strength
Truth -> We live a life of faith in Jesus to work in and through us, we spend time with Him, and our love for Him motivates us to obedience in His Strength.
Story
Response 2:
If you haven’t made a decision to follow Jesus, I want to share with you, this is what it looks like (a trusting relationship where you are following Him)
Have you been living a lie and trying to live the “Christian life by yourself in your own strength”? Take this time to tell God that. Ask Him to help you live life instead side by side with Him with His help and strength, if you don’t know what that looks like, you can always ask Him for help, He wants to help you.
