Psalm 63

As we get into this Psalm, we first see the title.
A Psalm of David when he was in the wilderness of Judah.
It has been said that this Psalm was written by David before he was King of Israel.
Even before he was king of Israel he was writing songs to God. It does not surprise me
1 Samuel 18:10 KJV 1900
And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul’s hand.
David was playing songs before he was king.
As we see that he is in the wilderness, This might be one of the times were Saul is chasing him trying to kill him.
1 Samuel 18:7 KJV 1900
And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.
That is when Saul becomes angry at David.
If you keep reading it goes on to say that a distressing spirit came upon Saul. verse 9- so Saul eyes David from that day forward.
You know the story, Saul was trying to kill David many times.
but Saul knew that the Lord was with David.
Saul was afraid of David, therefore he becomes Davids enemy.
What was Davids wrong, he did no wrong.
In fact, David had many opportunities to Kill Saul but he didn’t.
David was a warrior, but not just any warrior, I would compare him to the elite Special Forces of Today.
But nevertheless, he trusted God.
Psalm 63
Verse 1
You are my God, David is not saying you are a God, you are the God, but he is saying you are My God.
Are you able to say those words, He is my God.
Early I will seek you,
Last Sunday night, the message was regarding the new year and drawing closer to God.
Here we are early in the year. Are you seeking God,
or were you part of those you stopped two days into it.
Now this is not saying seek God in January because it is the New Year.
But it is saying, when you rise up early in the morning, are you seeking after God.
Where you’re heart is there your treasure is also.
What is the first thing you do in the morning?
Seek the Lord, draw closer to Him.
verse 1 goes on to say,
My soul thirst for you, My flesh longs for you.
If you wake up thirsty in the morning, most would not wait until noon to drink water, they will drink water in the morning.
Is you Soul, Spirit longing, Thirsty for God. Where you need Him in the morning and not at noon.
There are Christians who go through a drought in the Christian walk,
Have you felt that way before.
You just don’t feel like praying, you just don’t like reading the bible, you don’t feel like going to church.
You come up with excuses.
David is in the wilderness, he could have come up with excuses, but he didn’t. David continued to seek the Lord,
Just like us, that is a perfect example, even in our spiritual drought, we need to continue to seek the Lord.
Verse 2
He continues to look in the sanctuary, to see Gods power and glory.
Again David is in the wilderness.
Beautiful example for us.
He goes on to say why-
Because of your loving kindness.
David knows something about God, that maybe we are missing.
David knows something about Gods loving kindness that most Christians don’t know.
Many of us have no idea,
and we live our life that way.
Many people look at life, and consider life to be natural.
It is natural to take a breath, it is natural to eat, it is natural to drink water
we see life as being natural.
But David does not regard life as natural,
David regards God’s great love as natural, Gods great lovingkindness as natural.
I love the way I heard it from a Pastor I don’t remember his name.
People enjoy life
David enjoyed God’s great love
People would sacrifice to live
David sacrifices for God’s great love.
You see for Daivd, it was not about making it to church on Sunday.
It was not about making it to prayer on Mondays
It was not about an outreach
but for David it was a way of life.
David saw Gods great love Gods great lovingkindness as natural.
it was un natural to be out of sync with God.
A way of Life.
the next couple verses, verses 4-5
David is satisfied,
are you satisfied,
are you content,
is your joy circumstantial,
You have joy only when things go your way,
Or are you full of joy regardless on what happens in and through your life.
Remember David is in the wilderness,
yet his mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.
Are you able to praise God even if you are facing difficulties in your life.
Are you able to Praise God even when you feel you are in the wilderness or going though a drought.
Verse 9-10
David trusts in the Lord
I am not going to fight this battle for the battle belongs to my Lord.
David had many opportunities to kill Saul, but David said he could not do such thing. Because Saul was anointed of God
It is on Gods timing not our timing.
they shall fall by the sword and indeed they did fall by the sword.
David did not kill Saul, but the Lord on His timing allowed Saul to come to his divine appointment.
They shall be a portion for Jackals
Interesting, because how does David know this.
Well as mentioned earlier
David was a warrior, who fought in wars.
Is it possible he saw Jackals eating the dead bodies, possibly.
Verse 11
But David will/ shall rejoice in God
Everyone who swears by Him shall Glory.
There was a time when Gods name meant something.
In fact, politicians at times will place their hands on the bible to repeat the oath.
But is that with a sincere Heart, is that something they really mean.
we know the answer to that.
But today, people are quick to swear by His name.
David is saying if you swear by His name and He is not you Lord then you are a liar and you will be stopped.
Joy in the fellowship of God even when you’re going through a drought.
Seek God as you seek air to breath,
Seek God as you seek water to drink
Drink of the living water and you will not thirst again
Eat of the bread of life and you shall not be hungry
Amen
Let’s pray.
