Intro

Paul is writing to Christians in Galatia

He has heard that some of them are leaving the true Gospel that he had preached to them at first… and believing a false gospel. (Works, circumcision, etc.)

This book is a vigorous defense of the biblical Gospel.

Paul’s opponents are “Judaizers” (to live like Jews) that are preaching this false gospel to the church in Galatia. (Must be circumcised).

Judaizers are 1) Professing Christians 2) Teach that gentiles cannot be born again unless they are circumcised 3) Appeal to old testament and 4) Have discredited Paul’s apostleship.

Paul’s message is FAITH ALONE… no one is saved or justified by Works! Only through Faith in Christ (2:16)

“To be justified” (2:16) is to be declared righteous (3:11) solely because of the “righteousness” (2:21;3:21) that Christ won for his people in his death and resurrection. This righteousness is imputed to the sinner (3:6) and received through faith alone (2:16). The righteousness by which we are justified is not achieved, merited, or otherwise secured by things we do in obedience to God’s law, “because by works of the law no will be justified” (2:16).

Sermon 1: Galatians 1: 1-10

Why Paul Wrote this to galatians:

1-5: is to greet the church, defend his Apostleship from God, and encourage the church to remember the Gospel that has saved them from the present evil age.

6-10: The galatians are deserting the true gospel of Grace and paul is ASTONISHED (stand in amazement).. ALL WHO PREACH FALSE GOSPELS ARE ACCURSED. Paul is making this crystal clear… he says it twice in a row!

Purpose Statement:

I want to introduce the church to Galatians and contrast the false gospel of circumcision with the true gospel of Grace.

There is Only ONE true Gospel!!!

Some here may have deserted the true gospel and now believe in a works based gospel.

Others may have never truly understood the Gospel… GRACE ALONE THROUGH FAITH ALONE!

God made peace with US… not the other way around!! ISAIAH 43… THe chastisement for our peace was upon him!

There is not Plus or And in the true, biblical gospel…

Your culture, your village, your community and town is saturated with false gospels… GO AND PREACH THE TRUTH!

2:11-14 Peters hypocrisy (Right beliefs… Wrong Behavior)

1-14.. could contrast legalism and hypocrisy…

Sermon 2: Galatians 2: 11-21

Why Paul Wrote this to galatians:

Paul contrasts the legalism and hypocrisy.. with the truth… Right beliefs with right behavior… FAITH (Holy Spirit power) IS THE ONLY WAY TO BRING THESE TWO TOGETHER

Used the confrontation with Peter to strengthen his argument as well as show how tough the struggle of jew and gentile is in the culture. (Peter’s hypocrisy)

Now the Gospel starts coming hard… NO ONE is Justified by works of the law, BUT only through faith in Christ!

Purpose Statement: I want the church in Kenya to understand two things that come from faith… 1) Justified and accepted before God (At peace Romans 5) (this is an act of God)

2. Made alive!!!

Crucified with christ

No longer we who live But Christ lives in us…

IF christ lives in us… what should be happening..

We don’t obey God’s word and do good works.. to earn God’s love… we do them because he is living in us!

Sermon 3: Galatians 3: 15-22

Why Paul Wrote this to galatians:

Human analogy to reinforce verses 1-14..(mainly 10-14). He wants to prove again that the law is not meant to lead to eternal life… Only faith in Christ and the Old testament promise to the “offspring” of Abraham proves it!!!

Purpose Statement:

…TRY TO EXPLAIN Verses 15-22. FOCUS ON CHRIST! HE is the “offspring” of Abraham!

For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
