Title: Life Church Core Values
What is a core value?
ChatGPT: A core value is a deeply held, non-negotiable conviction that governs decisions, priorities, behavior and direction. It answer the question: “What matters most - no matter the cost”.
Core Values are the building-block principles that enable our actions. They are the belief system that is unchanging, and the motivation that pushes us to fulfillment our purpose.
In our text we have a question; what would a man give in exchange for his own soul?
They say that everyone has a price…
What determines that price is a person’s CORE VALUES!
In the coming weeks we are going to be teaching and preaching about vision, mission and CORE VALUES.
Vision is destination - Mission is vehicle - Core values is fuel
Proverbs 29:18 “18 Where there is no vision, the people perish…”
BUT before vision there must be an understanding of who we are!
Joshua 24:15 “ … choose you this day whom ye will serve…”
If you have not already established who you are, you cannot count on making the right decision!
Core Values:
Define direction
Shape decisions
Bind a group together in unity
Establish identity
Keep you honest
Produces faithfulness to the mission
Creates a place for generational success
IN SHORT, CORE VALUES ARE THE GUARDRAILS THAT KEEP VISION FROM CRASHING AND THE CHURCH ON MISSION!
Over the next four Tuesday nights, starting tonight, we are going to invest in ourselves by talking about the four Core Values of TLC.
First Core Value of TLC: LOVE
Matthew 22:37–40 “37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
The foundation of everything we do MUST be that we love God and each other!
Discussion question:
What does this mean?
What is the difference between loving God and merely serving God?
Can you do church activities and not opperate in love?
Are there areas where you believe, do, live right BUT your love has grown cold?
How does love look on the weekday?
Explain verse 40.
You can’t love people properly until you love God properly!
The power of Godly Love
John 13:34–35 “34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
1 Corinthians 13:1–3 “1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.”
We have to be the church that loves God passionately and loves people intentionally!
