Are Jews going to heaven?
Are Jews going to heaven?
A part from repentance and faith in Jesus no one is
Romans 10:9 “If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Does Pul give a caveat there? unless you are jewish?
no
John 14:6 “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”.
Philippians 2:10–11 “so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow— in heaven and on earth and under the earth— and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Colossians 1:15–19 “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For everything was created by him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities— all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and by him all things hold together. He is also the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything.
2. Salvation is only ever by grace alone through faith alone In the promised Messiah alone
Even abraham was saved that way
Romans 4:21–22 “because he (speaking of Abraham) was fully convinced that what God had promised, he was also able to do. Therefore, it was credited to him for righteousness.”
Even Abel was saved that way
Genesis 3:15 promised that Someone would come to clear up the sin problem created by our first father, Adam. As the Seed of the woman, He would be the one to battle and defeat the serpent. Even Abel understood the nature of a bloody sacrifice and the death of a substitute, and because of his faith in God, he was regarded by God as righteous (Hebrews 11:4).
3. Israels Old Testament status now applied to beleivers in the New Testament
1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
Colossians 3:12 “Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved…
And this one makes it clear….
Galatians 3:29 “And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, heirs according to the promise.”
3. Jesus specifically tell the Jewish leaders they are not God’s chosen people and why in the parable of the wicked tenants
found in the Gospels of Matthew (21:33–46), Mark (12:1–12), and Luke (20:9–19).
In the story, a vineyard owner leases his vineyard to tenants who, instead of paying him the fruit, beat and kill his servants ( representing the prophets they killed in the Old Testament like Isaiah), and finally murder the owner's beloved son, hoping to take the vineyard for themselves. Jesus uses this parable to condemn the religious leaders of Israel who rejected God's messages and will themselves be judged.
What about(1) Jews before Christ (Abrahams faith was credited him as righteousness)
What about(1) Jews before Christ (Abrahams faith was credited him as righteousness)
There has always biblically been a distinction between believing Israel and ethnic unbelieving Israel
Acts 3: Moses said: The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to everything he tells you. And everyone who does not listen to that prophet will be completely cut off from the people.
There were those who believed in the coming greater one (The messiah) and those who didn’t
Romans 11:17 “Now if some of the branches were broken off, and you, though a wild olive branch, were grafted in among them and have come to share in the rich root of the cultivated olive tree,”
Believers are grafted into believing Israel
What are we all believing in ?
What is the rejection and disbelief that leads to being broken off?
Galatians 3:29 “And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, heirs according to the promise.”
They were saved by looking to the Messiah to save them…looking ahead to the cross
we are saved looking back to the cross
how do we know that especially when they only had the old testament
Well it was all the people in the new testament had
It was all Jesus had
And it was all about Him
Luke 24:13–17 “Now that same day two of them were on their way to a village called Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem. Together they were discussing everything that had taken place. And while they were discussing and arguing, Jesus himself came near and began to walk along with them. But they were prevented from recognizing him. Then he asked them, “What is this dispute that you’re having with each other as you are walking?” And they stopped walking and looked discouraged.” …skip to verse 25
Luke 24:25–27 “He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Wasn’t it necessary for the Messiah to suffer these things and enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, (that means ALL of the Old Testament) he interpreted for them the things concerning himself in all the Scriptures.”
Luke 24:44–47 “He told them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. He also said to them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead the third day, and repentance for forgiveness of sins will be proclaimed in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”
salvation has always been by God’s grace and can only be received through faith in the Messiah
It is what all of the Old Testament authors were writing about
1 Peter 1:10–12 “Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who prophesied about the grace that would come to you, searched and carefully investigated. They inquired into what time or what circumstances the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified in advance to the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you. These things have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—angels long to catch a glimpse of these things.”
one more to hammer this home
Acts 3:18–24 “In this way God fulfilled what he had predicted through all the prophets—that his Messiah would suffer. Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out, that seasons of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send Jesus, who has been appointed for you as the Messiah. Heaven must receive him until the time of the restoration of all things, which God spoke about through his holy prophets from the beginning. Moses said: The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to everything he tells you. And everyone who does not listen to that prophet will be completely cut off from the people. “In addition, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those after him, have also foretold these days.”
So who is the true Israel?
Who has it always been?
Okay, let’s read Romans 9:6–8.
For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel, and not all are children of Abraham because they are his offspring, but “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” This means [so now he’s interpreting what he said] that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring.
Grace alone through faith alone through the promised one alone
(2) Jews today that do not believe Jesus is the Messiah.
(2) Jews today that do not believe Jesus is the Messiah.
Based on the biblical evidence what do you think?
If they aren’t what does that mean we should do?
