Lets Start off with a rundown of Noah and the Ark. The Earth during that time was corrupt and filled with Wickedness. The Lord Regretted what he had made, so he decided that he was going to wipe mankind out of existence, along with the animals, and the birds of the sky. But Noah found favor with the Lord. Noah was a Righteous and Godly man. So the Lord decided that he was going to spare Noah and his family. He told Noah that he was going to bring floodwaters on the Earth, so he needed to build a Ark. He also told him that not only are you going to bring your family on board but also two of all living creatures.
The flood came and it lasted 40 days and 40 nights, and every creature on Earth died. Then after all the water had receded and things dried up, Noah, his family and all of the creatures were able to leave the Ark. Noah then built an Alter to the lord and this is where our lesson begins. We’re gonna talk about the covenant that God made with Noah.
Genesis 9:8–17 8) “Then God said to Noah and his sons with him, 9)“Understand that I am establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you, 10) and with every living creature that is with you—birds, livestock, and all wildlife of the earth that are with you—all the animals of the earth that came out of the ark. 11) I establish my covenant with you that never again will every creature be wiped out by floodwaters; there will never again be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12) And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all future generations: 13) I have placed my bow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14) Whenever I form clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds, 15)I will remember my covenant between me and you and all the living creatures: water will never again become a flood to destroy every creature. 16) The bow will be in the clouds, and I will look at it and remember the permanent covenant between God and all the living creatures on earth.” 17) God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and every creature on earth.””
So, I have three questions for us to think about and ponder?
1) Is the Rainbow still a sign of God’s promise today?
1) Is the Rainbow still a sign of God’s promise today?
As Christians, we read Genesis 9 and say, absolutely it is. It was a sign of the promise then and its still a sign of that promise. Amen!
But to the world, its not. To the world its a sign of homosexuality. When the world see’s a rainbow flag, what do they think? Gay. It has become a symbol of quote on quote “pride”. Was this the intention of what God had a Rainbow to become, No. Like we just said, its a promise of hope that God has given us. And look how the Enemy of the Lord has used that sign of Hope. Satan has made the rainbow into a symbol of sin.
A flag that we should fly as a symbol of God’s grace, is now the symbol for Pride. Pride being something that we should strive to get away from. Humble and lowly was Jesus, not prideful. And look how the enemy has made been that liar and deceiver that we talked about last week.
Jesus was Humble and lowly, but also Bold. I’ve talked to y’all about this before, we are called to be bold. So is the rainbow a sign of God’s promise? Yes! No matter what the world has made you believe, stand on the truth that a Rainbow is not just a sign of Love, its a sign of GOD”S LOVE! Be bold and remember that promise.
Now on to question 2, and let me start by saying that there is no right or wrong answer.
2) How does God’s covenant with Noah offer hope?
2) How does God’s covenant with Noah offer hope?
3) Are we any better now than we were then?
3) Are we any better now than we were then?
If you ask me, I’d say I don’t think we are.
