movements.
ii. Wesleyanism and Christian Perfection
iii. Is there a time-gap between conversion and the baptism
of the Holy Spirit?

c. The existence of prophecy today.
d. What are the enduring gifts and what are the sign gifts.
e. Speaking in Tongues
Two groups:
1. Those who have received the second blessing
2. Those who have not.
The Biblical Material
John the Baptist Luke 3:16-17
The Great Commission Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-8 (receive=baptism)
One-time events
Pentecost Acts 2; Joel 2:28-32
The prophecy of Christ was “you shall receive”
The event on Pentecost was “they were filled”
Acts 4:8, 31—filling, not baptising
Filling, not baptism, was repeated
The first Samaritans Acts 8:4
The first Gentiles Acts 10 (44)
The first Disciples of John the Baptist Acts 19:1-7
Summary:
1. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit means that all Christians have the Holy Spirit
2. There is no “second blessing” or “second work of grace”
3. Each of the three times the Baptism of the Holy Spirit occurred after Pentecost were onetime, non-repeatable instances.
4. There is never a command to be baptised by the Holy Spirit nor the command to seek it.
5. All have the Spirit-Romans 8:9
