WEEK 2 — A BIBLICAL FOUNDATION FOR FINANCIAL FREEDOM
WEEK 2 — A BIBLICAL FOUNDATION FOR FINANCIAL FREEDOM
Financial freedom begins when believers recognize God’s ownership, embrace faithful stewardship, and trust Him rather than money.
1 The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein.
Faithfulness and lordship
Faithfulness and lordship
10 He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.
11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
12 And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?
13 “No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
Treasures and trust
Treasures and trust
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;
20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22 “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light.
23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
Contentment vs. greed
Contentment vs. greed
6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Honoring God first
Honoring God first
9 Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase;
10 So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.
I. GOD OWNS IT ALL (10 minutes)
I. GOD OWNS IT ALL (10 minutes)
“The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof…” (Psalm 24:1)
Financial freedom starts with theology, not technique.
If God owns everything, then we manage what already belongs to Him.
Key Points
Key Points
Ownership belongs to God
Possession belongs to people
Accountability belongs to stewards
We do not ask God to bless our money—
We submit His money to His purposes.
17 then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’
18 “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
8 ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts.
11 Who has preceded Me, that I should pay him? Everything under heaven is Mine.
Illustration
A manager is trusted with keys, but never owns the building.
Stewardship is trust, not entitlement.
II. STEWARDSHIP REVEALS LORDSHIP
II. STEWARDSHIP REVEALS LORDSHIP
“You cannot serve God and money.” (Luke 16:13)
How we handle money exposes who rules our hearts.
Key Points
Key Points
Stewardship is spiritual, not merely financial
Faithfulness in small things reveals readiness for greater trust
Money is a test, not a goal
Diagnostic Questions
Diagnostic Questions
Who gets my first?
Who gets my best?
Who gets my trust?
Supporting Scriptures
Supporting Scriptures
Luke 16:10–12
Matthew 6:24
16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
Money makes a poor master but a faithful servant.
III. WRONG BELIEFS BLOCK FINANCIAL FREEDOM
III. WRONG BELIEFS BLOCK FINANCIAL FREEDOM
Financial bondage is often rooted in heart issues, not income levels.
Common Biblical Barriers
Common Biblical Barriers
Greed – Wanting more instead of trusting God
Fear – Hoarding instead of obeying
Pride – Self-reliance instead of dependence
Contentment loss – Comparing instead of thanking
Hebrews 13:5
10 He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; Nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity.
28 He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage.
Discontentment is spiritual dissatisfaction disguised as financial need.
IV. OBEDIENCE OPENS THE DOOR TO FREEDOM
IV. OBEDIENCE OPENS THE DOOR TO FREEDOM
9 Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase;
10 So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.
Freedom is found in obedient trust, not financial control.
Biblical Priorities
Biblical Priorities
God first
Needs before wants
Eternal impact over temporary comfort
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
2 Corinthians 9:6–8
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.
God does not promise wealth—but He does promise provision.
