Joel 2:12–13 ESV
“Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.
“Yet even now,” God says “return to me.” The LORD wanted the people of Israel (God’s chosen people at the time) to come back to the LORD.
The people of Israel go through a cycle
Israel is close to God
Israel is blessed abundantly by Him
Israel gets further away from God
Israel gets punished.
How many of us would have 100% assurance that we’re going to heaven.
Our eyes must be opened, in order to see the excellent sacrifice and the truth that is found throughout the entire Bible.
The Wonderful Counselor (Isaiah 9:6), gives us peace, but we have to return to Him.
You can never be too far gone.
You cannot come to the LORD and be too far gone. The LORD gives everyone the beautiful sacrifice made by God (Jeremiah 31:31)
Return to the LORD.
