What is Prayer?

Someone tell me, what is prayer? (Talking to God, making requests to Him)
Prayer can be done in all sorts of ways… (PowerPoint)
Silently alone
With family and friends
In Church
Or on the schoolbus!
God is everywhere, He can hear us wherever we are.

How do I Pray?

Have you ever thought to yourself, “Man, I really want to be praying more, but I just don’t know what to say!”
Request
Matthew 7:7 NKJV
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
If you’re super hungry, and you ask dad for a snack, what’s he going to do? (Give you a snack)
Your dad is a sinner, and yet he knows to give you good things...
If we can expect our dad to give us good things, what do you think God will do when you ask Him?
Matthew 7:11 NKJV
11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
Thanksgiving
1 Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV
18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Confession
1 John 1:9 NKJV
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Spirit Helps us
Romans 8:26 NKJV
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Who do I pray to?

1 Timothy 2:5 NKJV
5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
Illustration: Christ built the bridge
Now, here’s an easy question, who do we pray to? (God!)
We’ve heard this word a lot lately, “Abba”
Who knows what “Abba” means?
Abba = Father, Dad. Closeness in relationship.

Applications

God hears our prayers
He is our heavenly Father, He can provide for us!
