Do Not Harden Your Heart
Do Not Harden Your Heart
Psalm 95
V 1-7 praise God the creator
Praise God the great king
Praise God the owner of this universe
Praise God of our salvation
This is the Israelites speaking here, they are the chosen nation
but they all individually have to believe
they all have to put their faith in Jesus
The coming messiah The one who will die on the cross for their sins
Their personal salvation is just like ours
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved
V 7-10
V 7 there is a big break from Corporately to individually
If only Today Don’t harden your hearts
Now after John had been delivered up into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God,
and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
this is a command for everybody
Jesus speaking to the people said
and the one who comes to Me I will never cast out.
how I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you publicly and from house to house,
solemnly testifying to both Jews and Greeks about repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
this is also a command by Paul to everyone
But Jesus also said in
and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.
the hardness of sin has polluted the mind against God
David is saying to the people of his time don’t be like your ancestors who came out of captivity
the people who could not enter into the promised land because of the lack of faith
the people who had a hard heart because of sin
Hebrews 4
The author to the Hebrews is going to tell his audience the same thing that the Psalmist said
V 3-19
not enter because of unbelief
Enter His rest , the promised land was to be rest for the people
The author is pleading with his audience to come to Christ
to repent and believe
V 1-2
The good news / the gospel was proclaimed to the people in the wilderness
but the would not believe
would not put their trust in the coming Messiah to save them from their sins
V 3 is speaking of the believers
We when we believe enter Gods rest
Jesus has done all of the work
Sanctified us / set us apart
justified us / declared us not guilty
adopted us / brought us into His family
V 3 also speaks of those who don’t believe
The Wrath of God
is righteous judgement against sin
the expression of holiness against sin
The wrath of God was on Jesus when He was on the cross
That is how the ones who believe can be declared not guilty
from the foundation of the world there has been a plan for the salvation for those who believe
V 4-6
Some believe and a lot don’t
V 7 today
through David he said “today” if you hear His voice
the author says “today”
today I say Today
If you hear His voice calling
Don’t harden your heart
Whether or not you think that you are one of the elect
Jesus says if you come to me
I promise you wont be cast out
The Sabbath Rest
The Sabbath Rest
V 8-10
Rest in peace
When this life is over for the Christian there will be a Godly rest from our labors
God created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th
There are many who believe that this creation is in a 7 millennial time frame
we are in the last Jubilee? 50 years before the 7th day
the day of rest, the Millennial kingdom
where the christian will rule with her groom this world
will we work? probably
but it will be a work that is not work
we will be at rest,
the preacher here in
V 11
is going back to evangelizing to turn people to repentance
but be careful when you come to Christ. make sure you are coming with an attitude that is..
of repentance turning away from your sin
having a heart that hates your sin
turning away from self to Jesus as your saviour
Because V 12
you cant fool God. He judges your intentions, your motivations, your innermost thoughts
V 13
There is a coming judgement and all of these things will be brought to the light
All sin will be judged and we will have to give an account for it
and the wages of sin is death an eternity in the lake of fire
Jesus on the other hand has paid the penalty for the sin of everyone who has put faith the finished work of Christ
V 14-16
The good news is that we are sinners with a death penalty
but Jesus came and took sin upon himself
TODAY if you hear God’s voice calling do not harden your hearts
yield to the Holy Spirit who is gives new life. then come trembling to the cross of Christ cast your soul to Him for salvation
beg for His Mercy and Grace
Enter the rest that God offers.
