Responsive reading — What stood out to you?
Explanation
Explanation
3:1 — Regarding God’s heart and our hesitations, as with Nineveh, so it often is with the nations.
Phil Robertson — we just need to bomb ‘em
Eurasia — 3 for 1.5M
This is why ST is the way it is, why I’m not concerned about overemphasizing “missions”
“American Christianity has gotten so lukewarm that biblical Christianity seems radical.” — Shane Pruitt
3:2-3 — The actual size of the city means it took 3 days to walk through all the neighborhoods, city squares, etc.
3:4 — There’s a double meaning to “overturned”: whether through repentance or destruction, Nineveh would never be the same.
This is the fork in the road of the gospel
“The gospel demands a response”
3:5 — They only see the one meaning
3:6 — The king couldn’t truly call on God without taking himself off the throne.
What a great model for repentance
He goes from clothed in royalty to sackcloth, from a throne to dust
3:7 — Not eating for 40 days even makes the animals cry out.
Everything under his dominion is subject to God.
Is that true of you?
You can never tell who will turn to Jesus.
3:8 — Repentance is about changing actions, not just changing words.
3:9 — The king isn’t sure about God’s mercy like Jonah is, and yet he’s still more repentant.
3:10 — The question is not if God will accomplish his purposes, but if we will joyfully participate.
“What he failed to experience was the incomparable joy of obedience, the deep delight, in spite of all costs, that comes when we say yes to the call and commands of God.” — p. 251Daily Strength
