What is the purpose of Preaching?

To Proclaim the Good News- Mark 16:15-18
Mark 16:15–18 HCSB
Then He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages; they will pick up snakes; if they should drink anything deadly, it will never harm them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will get well.”
Rebuke, correct, and encourage- 2 Timothy 4:2
2 Timothy 4:2 HCSB
Proclaim the message; persist in it whether convenient or not; rebuke, correct, and encourage with great patience and teaching.
Why is Preaching Important?
How will someone believe in Jesus if they haven’t heard? Romans 10:14-17
Romans 10:14–17 HCSB
But how can they call on Him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about Him? And how can they hear without a preacher? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who announce the gospel of good things! But all did not obey the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our message? So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.
There will come a time when people will not listen to sound doctrine. 2 Timothy 4:3-4
2 Timothy 4:3–4 HCSB
For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear something new. They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths.
Do not Ignore The Holy Spirit
Preaching should be led by the Spirit of God. 1 Corinthians 2:13—14
1 Corinthians 2:13–14 HCSB
We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people. But the unbeliever does not welcome what comes from God’s Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to understand it since it is evaluated spiritually.
