A Sermon on Attendance

-          #’s for comparison b/t Bible School, Worship, P.M., & Wed.

-          Reasons why people don’t come:

o   Out of Town

o   Work

o   Sickness

o   Emergency

o   Overslept

o   Choice

-          Note: Attendance is not the litmus test for faithfulness.

o   Heaven isn’t earned by punching the clock.

o   Many people attend worship services, but they are merely warming the pews.

§  Hypocrites

§  Going through the motions

o   However, the lack of attendance is inconsistent with faithfulness.

-          Sunday morning is the only service that matters, right?

o   Well, the only things that are directly commanded is the contribution       (1 Cor. 16:1-2) and the Lord’s Supper (Acts 20:7) upon each first day of the week.

o   However, the early church didn’t take this to mean that they should assemble together only once a week.  Instead, they meet daily (cf. Acts 2:46).

o   Also, every service of the church matters!

-          Let us now consider some benefits of attending:

o   An opportunity to worship God

§  God desires worship.

§  God deserves worship.

o   An opportunity to study the Word of God

§  Hos. 4:6

§  1 Pet. 2:2 – As babes, desire the sincere milk of the word

§  2 Tim. 3:15-17

o   An opportunity to give and receive encouragement

§  Heb. 10:25 – Meeting together = Encouragement

§  We need revival.

§  Psa. 122:1 – I was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of the Lord
