Lessons from our Heavenly Father
Thesis: To note how wonderful it is to have God as our Heavenly Father and to learn lessons
from His perfect model of parenting.
Introduction:
(1) Father’s Day – Greatest Father = God
(2) Let us note 3 lessons that we may learn from Him:
Discussion:
I. God Provides for us:
A. He knows us intimately (cf. Matt. 10.30 – even the # of hairs on our head).
B. He is able to distinguish between our needs and our wants (cf. Matt. 6.25-34; Also, God answers prayers according to His will – 1 John 5.14).
C. He sacrifices for our needs (cf. John 3.16).
II. God Disciplines us:
A. Read Hebrews 12.6-11
B. Remember Solomon’s advice – Prov. 22.6 – Train up a child in the way he should go; this sometimes involves punishment –
He who spares his rod hates his son,
But he who loves him disciplines him diligently. - Prov 13:24
III. God Forgives us:
A. 2 Pet. 3.9 – longsuffering, now willing that any should perish, but all come to repentance
B. He will remember our sins no more (Heb. 10.17) – forgiven and removed as far as the east is from the west (Ps. 103.12)
Conclusion:
(1) What a blessing to have God as our Heavenly Father
(2) Will you be His child?
