Text: Psalm 148

Thesis: To prove that Christians are to live a life that constantly praises Jehovah God.

Introduction:

(1)    One has entitled this psalm as a “choir of creation” (Kidner 487).

(2)    This psalm “is a dialogue of a man with God, a man who is completely sure of God’s love and care for the universe” (Knight DSB 357).

(3)    Psalms 146-150 is a praise collection that were used at some point as a part of the daily prayers in the synagogue worship (VanGemeren 864).

(4)    Let us note 2 main points:

Discussion:

I.                   Praise the Lord

A.    This psalm begins and ends on this call to praise Yaweh.

B.     A division of the text may be:

1.      Praise Him in heaven (vv. 1-6)

2.      Praise Him on earth (vv. 7-12)

3.      Praise Him by His people (vv. 13-14)

C.     In vv. 7-12, the organization of God’s creation reflects the general order of the days of Creation.

D.    People praise Him because:

1.      The Position Held by God (v. 13)

2.      The Care Given by God (v. 14)

a.       He has endowed them with glory/horn.

b.      He has a special place in His heart for them.

II.                Purpose of Life

A.    Matt. 5.16 – Let light shine so men may glorify God

B.     Rom. 12.1 – Present Bodies as a living, holy sacrifice

C.     Ecc. 12.13 – Reverence God and keep His commandments

Conclusion:

(1)    We serve an amazing God.

(2)    Our lives should exemplify what our hearts feel for Him.

(3)    Will you live in such a way as daily to praise God?
