The Inescapable, All-Knowing God

Text:  Psalm 139

Thesis:  To prove that God is everywhere knowing all things, which to non-Christians is scary

               but to Christians is comforting.

Introduction:

(1)   The Lord sees all:

(a)     “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Watching the evil and the good.” (Prov. 15.3)

(b)    “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do” (Heb. 4.13).

(2)   Let us note 3 points about our God:

Discussion:

I.                   God knows us (vv. 1-6):

A.    Jesus tells us: “I know my sheep” (John 10.14).

B.     He even knows the # of hairs upon your head (Matt. 10.30).

C.     He is able to look past the superficial and see what really matters: the heart –

“But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” (1 Sam. 16.7)

II.                God is there for us (vv. 7-12):

A.    “Am I a God who is near," declares the LORD, "And not a God far off? Can a man hide himself in hiding places, So I do not see him?" declares the LORD. “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?" declares the LORD” (Jer. 23.23-24).

B.  He is not there to hurt us but to help us.

III.             God cares for us (vv. 13-18):

A.    He is the creator and cares for His creation.

B.     Note – Verse 15-16a – God cares for the unborn

Conclusion:

(1)    Since God…then help me with this evil (vv.19-22).

(2)    Since God…then help me to be right with Him (vv. 23-24).
