New Beginnings in Christ
New Beginnings in Christ
Text: 2 Cor. 5.17
Thesis: To note that “in Christ” we are able to start anew.
Introduction:
(1) Starting over –
(a) New Year
(b) High School/College
(c) New Job
(d) Move
(2) Spiritually speaking, we are also able to start anew:
Discussion:
I. We become a new Creature
A. Spiritual “make-over”
B. John 3.1-8 – The New Birth
C. Isa. 1.18 - "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson,
They will be like wool.”
D. Rom. 6.3-5 – Death, Burial, and Resurrection
II. We become a new Citizen
A. “This World is Not My Home” – 1 Pet. 2.11 – aliens and strangers
B. Our citizenship is now Heaven (Phil. 1.20)
C. Heb. 11.14-16 - For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own. And indeed if they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.
III. We have new Cravings
A. Taste Buds Changing
B. Gal. 5.18-24 – Works of the Flesh – Old Food; Fruit of the Spirit – New Food
Conclusion:
(1) Once you’ve tasted the best, then you don’t want to turn back.
(2) Will you “start anew” with Christ today and be blessed?
