I’m here to tell you today that every single one of you hearing me now can be just like one of those Olympians we just saw! Do you believe that!? You can my friend, you can indeed and I want to tell you how.
Does anyone know what the word “DECLIVITY” means? It means a downward slope. Have any of you ever run down a hill in the middle of the woods, I mean a steep hill now? How easy is it to take a spill on one of those declivities?
How about these words then...
Bungle, Botch, Flub, Fumble, Muff, Bumble, Flag, Languish, or Wane
Any one of us can be just like one of those Olympians, any one of us can stumble!

TEXT EXPOSITION
Gen 19.15-16
As morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be swept away in the punishment of the city.” But he lingered. So the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, the LORD being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.
Delay as long as you can.
“Why do today what you can put off till tomorrow?”

1 Tim 6.11
But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.
2 Tim 2.22
So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
Delay as long as we can
Gen 19.17-22
And as they brought them out, one said, “Escape for your life. Do not look back or stop anywhere in the valley. Escape to the hills, lest you be swept away.” And Lot said to them, “Oh, no, my lords. Behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have shown me great kindness in saving my life. But I cannot escape to the hills, lest the disaster overtake me and I die. Behold, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Let me escape there—is it not a little one?—and my life will be saved!” He said to him, “Behold, I grant you this favor also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. Escape there quickly, for I can do nothing till you arrive there.” Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
Do as little as possible.

Let grace increase!
No need for great faith right
Matt 17.20
He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Luke 17.6
And the Lord said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.
Do as little as possible
Gen 19.23-29
The sun had risen on the earth when Lot came to Zoar. Then the LORD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the LORD out of heaven. And he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. But Lot’s wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.
And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the LORD. And he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and toward all the land of the valley, and he looked and, behold, the smoke of the land went up like the smoke of a furnace.
So it was that, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, God remembered Abraham and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow when he overthrew the cities in which Lot had lived.
Look back continuously.
“Can’t know where your going unless you know where you’ve been.”
Think of what your giving up!
God’s mercy will cover us

Matthew 19.27
Then Peter said in reply, “See, we have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?”
Matthew 19.29
And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life.
Luke 9.62
Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Look back continuously
Gen 19.30
Now Lot went up out of Zoar and lived in the hills with his two daughters, for he was afraid to live in Zoar. So he lived in a cave with his two daughters.
Always be fearfully distrustful of God.
What had he just been through
His own quick thinking about Zoar saved them
His own thinking will preserve them - [cave]
2 Sam 22.31
This God—his way is perfect;
the word of the LORD proves true;
he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.
Pro 3.5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
1 John 4.16
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
Always be fearfully distrustful of God.
Gen 19.31-38
And the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come in to us after the manner of all the earth. Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve offspring from our father.” So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father. He did not know when she lay down or when she arose.
The next day, the firstborn said to the younger, “Behold, I lay last night with my father. Let us make him drink wine tonight also. Then you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve offspring from our father.” So they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. Thus both the daughters of Lot became pregnant by their father. The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab. He is the father of the Moabites to this day. The younger also bore a son and called his name Ben-ammi. He is the father of the Ammonites to this day.
Seek to be negligent wherever you are.
No need to protect and provide
Go ahead and indulge what could happen
You’ll be gone so who cares about the future
1 Cor 16.13
Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
1 Pet 5.8
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
Exodus 34.6-7
The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”
Delay as long as you can.
Do as little as possible.
Look back continuously.
Always be fearfully distrustful of God.
Seek to be negligent wherever you are.
Delay as long as you can, doing as little as possible, looking back continuously, always being fearfully distrustful of God, seeking to be negligent wherever you are.
Remove yourself from fellowship with God’s people
Place yourself in proximity to those pursuing wicked lawlessness
Find yourself caught up in their disputes and quarrels
Suffer lose along side them when judgement comes
Leave a tainted broken legacy to those who come after you
1 Cor 3.10-15
According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.
After all still saved right?
What more do you want?

GOAL
Run to Win!
1 Corinthians 9.24
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.
1 Cor 9.25-27
Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
Philippians 2.16
holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.
Hebrews 12.1-3
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.
Act quickly
To the best of your ability
Fixing your eyes on Christ
Courageously moving forward
Seeking to proactively deal with the sin that might hinder us
Obey as quickly as you can, doing as much as possible, looking heavenward continuously, always being totally dependent on God, seeking to be vigilant wherever you are.

God our Father help us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith. Keep us from running aimlessly, rather let us consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that we may not grow weary or fainthearted. Help us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. Give us your Spirit so that we might hold fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ we may be proud that we did not run in vain or labor in vain. LORD we know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize, So help us run that we may obtain it.
