Well I’m back after taking a break from podcasting the last several months. Sometimes you just need to take a step back and refocus. Thankfully, Russ with Bible Way Media was kind and patient with me while I regrouped. So, with 2026 upon us we are going to be focused on this years theme, “Defender of the Faith” and what all that means. In Jude 3 we read…
Jude 3 NKJV
3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.
There’s been a trend that has developed over the last few decades wherein our own brethren have begun to adhere to the old denominational concept of “not rocking the boat.” I have several fellow preachers in the Lord’s church that I have known over the years that have gone from “contending earnestly for the faith” to admonishing those who would stand against false doctrine being taught. Throughout this year we are going to focus on areas in which people have stopped contending for the faith in. But before we get into those specific doctrines I want us to first be sure this is a biblical concept.
Obviously Jude teaches the necessity of “contending for the faith” but what do we find throughout the rest of God’s precious message?
The scriptures are clear when it comes to the idea of defending God’s word against those that would oppose it.
1 Peter 3:15 NKJV
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear
Philippians 1:7 NKJV
7 just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.
Titus 1:10–14 NKJV
10 For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, 11 whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain. 12 One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” 13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, 14 not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth.
To all those listening, as Christians we are to strive to live as peaceful lives with everyone as we can.
Romans 12:18 NKJV
18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.
However, when anyone seeks to ignore the truth of God’s word just to try and keep the peace with those that are perverting God’s word, as Christians we are not told to “stand down” but rather “stand up” for the cause of Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:3–6 NKJV
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
As we all venture into this new year let us not stand by and watch God’s word and those that might be saved by it be torn apart by those that do not love the truth. No, let us stand up for Christ and contend for the faith we swore to defend when agreed to always “fight the good fight of faith.”
