15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints,
16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:
17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,
18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power
20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,
21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church,
23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
PHD Ken Keathley, a research professor of Theology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, tell of a marine friend who ate the entire steak at the famous TX 72oz. steakhouse challenge. He said the last bites were just cramming meet down your throat and said Ephesians is kinda like that. It begins by jumping straight into deep theology.
The New King James Version Chapter 1
that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe,
What we see in this first chapter of Ephesians is a trinitarian view of salvation.
Robbie preached last week through verses 3-14 and showed us:
I. Predestined according to the plan of the Father
II. Purchased by the blood of the Son
III. Presented to us by the call of the Spirit
What we see in these verses is a trinitarian view of salvation.
Today, once again we see a trinitarian view of salvation.
I. Hope in Our Salvation
I. Hope in Our Salvation
17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,
18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
II. Hope in Our Inheritance
II. Hope in Our Inheritance
17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,
18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
Spiritual warfare and the duty of the pastor is to oversee and lead the flock.
The word pastor is literally the same word as shepherd.
And when the sheep try to lead the shepherd, things will always go wrong. But, the under shepherd must follow the Good Shepherd.
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
Whereas in verse 8 believers are identified as God’s inheritance, the present verse reverses it and speaks of God’s Spirit as the believers’ inheritance. A better translation might be “who is the initial installment of our inheritance, until the redemption of the purchased possession.”
III. Wisdom of the Manifestation of His Power
III. Wisdom of the Manifestation of His Power
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
1. His Power Manifested in Christ
1. His Power Manifested in Christ
who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,

8’ python in Brisbane, Queensland, AU
A woman felt weight on her chest, and assumed it was her Dalmatian until she reached past the covers and felt something slimy. Amazingly the lady woke her husband up and had him turn on the lights. Much to her horror, it turned out that an 8’ python has slipt through her second floor bedroom shutters and found this lady as a perfect resting place. She had her husband remove the dog before he spotted the snake and carnage ensued. The lady said she was just grateful that it wasn’t a frog. (Yes, they are built different in Australia.)
Now I know that Genesis says God has given us dominion over every creeping thing, but I wish he would have kept snakes away. In my mind, they would have been better suited for the moon.
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet,
For “He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him,” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted.
3. His Power Over the Church
3. His Power Over the Church
And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church,
but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—
For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.
