MISSION CITY CHURCH

INTRODUCTION – SET THE MOMENT

Pastor:
“Church family, today we have the joy of participating in a baby dedication. This is a sacred and celebratory moment — not because we believe dedication saves a child, but because it declares something powerful.”
“Today, parents are standing before God and this church family to say,
‘This child belongs to the Lord, and we commit to raising them in the ways of Jesus.’

WHY BABY DEDICATION MATTERS

Pastor:
“Baby dedication is important because it resets the ownership narrative.”
“In our culture, children are often treated as accessories, achievements, or extensions of our dreams. But Scripture tells us something different — children are not possessions… they are an inheritance from the Lord entrusted to us for a season!
“When parents dedicate their child, they are saying, ‘God, this life came from You, and we are stewarding what belongs to You.’
“This moment is also a reminder that discipleship does not start with behavior — it starts with belonging.”
It starts with belonging to God before it starts with behaving for God. It starts with belonging to a Father before it starts with following rules. It starts with belonging to a family before it starts with a formula.

WHY WE WITNESS THIS AS A CHURCH

Pastor:
“We also don’t do baby dedication privately, because faith was never meant to be lived in isolation.”
“Today isn’t just about parents making promises — it’s about a church becoming a covering community.”
“When we witness this moment, we are saying, ‘You are not raising this child alone.’
“Every prayer you whisper, every example you set, every time you serve in kids ministry or speak life over this family you become part of this child’s story.”

SCRIPTURAL FOUNDATION

Deuteronomy 6:5–7

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart… and teach these things diligently to your children.”
Pastor:
“Notice the order — love God first, then teach your children. We disciple best by devotion, not just instruction.”

Psalm 127:3

“Children are a heritage from the Lord…”

Mark 10:13–16

“Jesus took the children in His arms and blessed them.”

EXPLAIN WHAT THIS IS (AND IS NOT)

Pastor:
“This dedication is not baptism. It is not salvation. It is a declaration.”
“Parents, today you are saying, ‘We cannot save our child — but we will faithfully point them to the Savior.’

INVITE FAMILY FORWARD

“Mission City Church, can we celebrate this family as they come forward?”
👏👏👏

PARENT COMMITMENT

(Parents respond: “We do.”)
“Do you acknowledge this child is a gift from God entrusted to your care?”
“Do you commit to raising your child in an environment where Jesus is honored, Scripture is taught, prayer is practiced, and grace is modeled?”
“Do you commit to live out your faith before your child, knowing discipleship is more often caught than taught?”

CONGREGATIONAL COMMITMENT

Pastor:
“If you commit to support this family with prayer, encouragement, and example, please say, ‘We will.’
Church: We will.

DEDICATION PRAYER

“Heavenly Father, We thank You for this precious life. Your Word says that children are a gift from You, and today we joyfully return this gift back to You.
We pray for wisdom for these parents— strength when they are tired, grace when they fall short, and courage to lead their child toward You in a world pulling them away.
May this child come to know Jesus personally, love Him deeply, and follow Him boldly. May their life be marked by faith, joy, and purpose.
And may Mission City Church be a covering community—one that speaks life, models truth, and walks faithfully with this family.
We dedicate this child to You, Lord, trusting that You are already at work. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

TRANSITION INTO SERMON

Pastor:
“What we just witnessed is the gospel at ground level — families surrendering, a church standing together, and a God who is faithful from generation to generation.”
“Let’s now turn our hearts to the Word of God…”
