Freedom 1 Absolutely. Below is a full 60-minute sermon manuscript built around the theme:
Freedom From the Ties That Bind
Primary Texts:
Luke 13:10–17
Isaiah 61:1
John 8:36
Hebrews 12:1
INTRODUCTION (8–10 minutes)
Bound, But Not Meant to Stay That Way
Church, not every prison has bars.
Not every chain makes noise.
Not every bondage looks obvious.
Some people are bound by addiction.
Some are bound by fear.
Some are bound by bitterness, shame, trauma, habits, cycles, and spiritual oppression.
And the danger is this:
You can look free and still be bound.
You can shout on Sunday and struggle all week.
But I came with good news today:
Jesus did not save you to leave you bound.
Isaiah 61 says:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me… to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.”
If Jesus is still anointed—and He is—then freedom is still available.
Tell your neighbor:
“This message is for me.”
I. GOD SEES WHAT HAS YOU BOUND (Luke 13:10–12)
Jesus Notices What Others Ignore
Luke tells the story of a woman who had been bound for 18 years.
She wasn’t demon-possessed in a dramatic way.
She wasn’t loud.
She wasn’t disruptive.
She was simply bent over.
Key Insight
The Bible says:
“When Jesus saw her…”
Other people saw a condition.
Jesus saw a daughter.
Illustration: Hidden Chains
Some chains are visible.
Others are invisible:
• Anxiety
• Depression
• Insecurity
• Generational patterns
• Private sins
• Old wounds
People may say:
“That’s just how they are.”
But Jesus says:
“That’s not how they’re supposed to live.”
Pentecostal truth:
Jesus sees what’s been bending you down.
II. TIME DOES NOT BREAK CHAINS — POWER DOES (Luke 13:11)
18 Years and Still Bound
This woman had been bound for almost two decades.
Time didn’t heal her.
Religion didn’t help her.
Trying harder didn’t fix her.
Illustration: Rusted Chains
Old chains don’t fall off on their own.
They rust deeper.
That’s why some people say:
• “I’ve tried to change.”
• “I’ve prayed about it.”
• “I’ve lived with this too long.”
But hear this:
How long you’ve been bound does not intimidate God.
What takes years to form can break in a moment by the power of God.
III. THE BINDING DID NOT COME FROM GOD (Luke 13:16)
Correctly Identifying the Source
Jesus said:
“This woman, whom Satan has bound…”
That means:
• God didn’t bind her
• God didn’t teach her through it
• God didn’t design it
Pentecostal Balance
Not everything is the devil — but some things are.
Addiction isn’t from God.
Oppression isn’t from God.
Torment isn’t from God.
John 10:10:
“The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy…”
But Jesus says:
“I have come that they might have life.”
You cannot break free from what you refuse to identify.
IV. JESUS CALLS YOU FORWARD (Luke 13:12)
Freedom Requires Response
The woman didn’t ask for healing.
Jesus called her forward.
Illustration: Stepping Out of the Crowd
There’s a difference between:
• Being in the room
• Being in position
Some people stay bound because they won’t step out:
• Too embarrassed
• Too proud
• Too afraid
Pentecostal altar truth:
Your freedom is often one step past your comfort zone.
Jesus calls you where you are—but He frees you when you respond.
V. WORDS CAN BREAK WHAT HANDS NEVER TOUCH (Luke 13:12)
“Woman, You Are Loosed”
Jesus didn’t wrestle her.
He didn’t argue with the spirit.
He spoke:
“You are loosed.”
Illustration: Jail Cell Announcement
Imagine a prisoner hears:
“Your sentence has been paid. You are free to go.”
The door doesn’t open because of effort — it opens because of authority.
Pentecostal preaching reminder:
The Word of God carries deliverance power.
Chains respond to authority, not emotion.
VI. WHAT HAS BEEN BOUND AFFECTS HOW YOU WALK (Luke 13:11, 13)
Bent Identity vs. Restored Identity
She had been bent over — physically and symbolically.
Bondage affects:
• How you see yourself
• How you worship
• How you relate
Illustration: Heavy Backpack
Put on a heavy backpack long enough, and your posture changes.
Some people don’t know how to stand straight anymore:
• Always apologizing
• Always hiding
• Always expecting disappointment
But when Jesus touched her:
“Immediately she was made straight.”
Deliverance doesn’t just remove chains — it restores posture.
VII. RELIGION RESISTS FREEDOM, BUT JESUS PRIORITIZES IT (Luke 13:14–16)
When Rules Fight Redemption
The religious leaders were upset because Jesus healed on the Sabbath.
Religion says:
“Not today.”
Jesus says:
“This is exactly the day.”
Illustration: Locked Church Doors
Some churches love order more than people.
Tradition more than transformation.
But Pentecostal DNA says:
Freedom is always in season.
If it binds people, Jesus breaks it.
VIII. TRUE FREEDOM LEADS TO WORSHIP (Luke 13:13)
Loose People Praise Loud
When she was freed:
“She glorified God.”
Free people worship differently.
Illustration: Testimony Praise
There’s a praise that comes from:
• Knowing where you were
• Knowing what held you
• Knowing who freed you
If you’ve been delivered, your praise should reflect it.
IX. WHAT JESUS FREES YOU FROM, YOU MUST WALK OUT OF (Hebrews 12:1)
Freedom Is Maintained, Not Just Received
Hebrews says:
“Lay aside every weight and sin that so easily entangles us.”
Some things are chains.
Some things are weights.
Chains need deliverance.
Weights need discipline.
Illustration: Open Cage
An animal freed from a cage sometimes stays close because it’s familiar.
God frees you — but you must walk free.
CONCLUSION & ALTAR CALL (8–10 minutes)
“Woman, You Are Loosed” — Insert Your Name
Jesus didn’t say:
“Try harder.”
“Do better.”
He said:
“You are loosed.”
Call to Response
This altar call is for:
• Long-standing struggles
• Hidden chains
• Generational cycles
• Fear, shame, addiction, oppression
Say slowly:
“You don’t have to explain it.
You don’t have to defend it.
You don’t have to carry it anymore.”
Jesus is still loosing people.
Final Declaration
Whom the Son sets free
is free indeed.
Amen.
