Joshua 6:10–16 KJV 1900
And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout. So the ark of the Lord compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp. And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the Lord. And seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord went on continually, and blew with the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the Lord, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets. And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days. And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the Lord hath given you the city.

THE SILENCE BEFORE THE SHOUT

INTRODUCTION

Beloved, I came to tell somebody today— every battle is not won by talking. Every breakthrough is not produced by noise. Every miracle is not rushed by motion.
Some victories are born in silence.
Joshua stands before Jericho— walls thick, gates shut, enemy watching. And God gives him a strategy that doesn’t make sense to human logic.
God says, “March.” God says, “Circle.” God says, “Repeat.” And then God says something that messes with us real bad:
“Don’t say a word.”
Touch your neighbor and tell them: “This might be a silent season.”

POINT ONE: THE COMMAND - Silence is a Strategy

Joshua 6:10

“Joshua commanded the people, ‘You shall not shout or make your voice heard…’”
Now wait a minute— This is warfare, and God shuts their mouths.
Because some of us talk too much in front of walls. We explain too much. We defend ourselves too much. We announce plans God never told us to publish.
And God says, “If you want this wall to fall, you’re going to have to learn how to hush.”
Silence here is not fear— Silence is focus. Silence is trust. Silence is saying, “God, I don’t have to explain what You already promised.”
Some of you are leaking faith because you keep explaining yourself to people who can’t help you anyway.
Preaching line:
“Everybody doesn’t need commentary on what God told you privately.”
This is not the season to clap back. This is not the season to post. This is not the season to argue with the wall.
Sometimes the loudest faith is quiet obedience.

POINT TWO: THE CONSISTENCY

Joshua 6:11-15

Day one—march. No cracks. Day two—march. Same wall. Day three—march. Still standing. Day four. Day five. Day six.
No applause. No evidence. No encouragement.
Just obedience.
Now here’s where most people quit—not because God said “no,” but because God said “keep going.”
This is faith without feedback. Faith when nothing changes. Faith when prayer doesn’t move the wall—but it moves you.
They marched around something that looked the same every day, trusting a God who never changed.
Touch your neighbor and say: “Keep marching.”
Some of you have been faithful in obscurity. Faithful in repetition. Faithful when it’s boring.
And heaven is watching consistency—not charisma.
Preaching line:
“God is not impressed by how loud you shout—He’s moved by how long you obey.”

POINT THREE: THE CELEBRATION

Joshua 6:15-16

Now watch this— On the seventh day, Joshua doesn’t change the wall.
God changes the instructions.
They march seven times. And then Joshua says:
“Shout, for the LORD has given you the city!”
Notice this— The shout comes after obedience. The noise comes after discipline. The celebration comes after submission.
And notice what Joshua says— “The Lord has given you the city.”
Past tense. Before the walls fall. Before the dust settles.
Because faith shouts based on promise, not proof.
Somebody needs to hear this: When God tells you to shout, it’s not because the wall just moved— it’s because God already did.
Celebration cue:
“I dare you to praise Him for what hasn’t fallen yet!”

CONCLUSION

The shout didn’t knock the walls down. God did.
The shout was agreement. The shout was alignment. The shout was obedience catching up with promise.
And when God moves— walls that looked permanent collapse suddenly.
Systems fall. Cycles break. Strongholds crumble.
Some walls don’t fall gradually— they fall all at once.
Preaching line:
“What didn’t move for six days can fall in six seconds when God says so.
