“Strength Before Increase”
Text: Isaiah 54:2–3 “Enlarge the site of your tent, and let your tent curtains be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your ropes, and drive your pegs deep. For you will spread out to the right and to the left, and your descendants will dispossess nations and inhabit the desolate cities.”
Supporting Scriptures (max 3):
Colossians 2:6–7 “So then, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in him, being rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with gratitude.”
Psalm 127:1 “Unless the Lord builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain; unless the Lord watches over a city, the watchman stays alert in vain.”
Luke 16:10 “Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and whoever is unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much.”
BIG IDEA
BIG IDEA
God does not increase what He has not first strengthened.

OPENING — WHY THIS MESSAGE MATTERS (5 min)
OPENING — WHY THIS MESSAGE MATTERS (5 min)
The idea of growth excites us!
When we see things grow it begins to inspire us.
But strength is what sustains us.
Many people pray for more:
more opportunity
more influence
more blessing
But God often answers by saying:
“Let’s strengthen what you already have.”
Isaiah 54 is not a promise of fast growth.
It is a blueprint for healthy growth.
“Lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes.”
Before God spreads us outward,
He secures us downward.
I. WHAT ARE THE “STAKES”? (8 min)
I. WHAT ARE THE “STAKES”? (8 min)
In ancient tents, stakes were the anchors.
They determined:
how much weight the tent could hold
how much wind it could withstand
how much it could expand
No matter how wide the tent stretched,
weak stakes meant collapse.
Spiritual truth:
Your capacity is limited by what you are anchored to.
Colossians 2:6–7 (CSB)
“Continue to live in him, being rooted and built up in him…”
Rooted comes before built up.
II. WHY DOES GOD PRIORITIZES STRENGTH OVER SPEED? (10 min)
II. WHY DOES GOD PRIORITIZES STRENGTH OVER SPEED? (10 min)
We live in a culture that celebrates:
quick results (Microwave, Fast Food, On the go)
visible success
viral growth
But God values:
faithfulness
depth
obedience
Luke 16:10 “Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and whoever is unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much.”
God tests strength before He releases increase. Why?
Increase without strength produces:
burnout
pride
instability
shallow faith
Psalm 127:1 “Unless the Lord builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain; unless the Lord watches over a city, the watchman stays alert in vain.”
God would rather slow us down than see us fall apart.
III. WHERE IS GOD CALLING US TO BE STRENGTHENED? (10 min)
III. WHERE IS GOD CALLING US TO BE STRENGTHENED? (10 min)
In 2026 we must be:
1. Strengthened in Our Walk With God
1. Strengthened in Our Walk With God
Not emotional moments—daily obedience.
Emotional moments Cany
prayer that continues when feelings fade
Scripture that forms us, not just informs us
2. Strengthened in Our Character
2. Strengthened in Our Character
Growth exposes weakness.
Pressure reveals foundation.
God is more concerned with:
who we are becoming
than
how fast we are growing
3. Strengthened in Our Commitments
3. Strengthened in Our Commitments
Consistency is spiritual strength.
showing up
staying planted
finishing what we start
This is how God prepares us for more.
WHY THIS MESSAGE MATTERS FOR WHAT’S COMING (5 min)
WHY THIS MESSAGE MATTERS FOR WHAT’S COMING (5 min)
Church, God is preparing us for increase.
But not reckless increase. Not unsustainable growth.
He is strengthening us:
spiritually
relationally
structurally
So when growth comes, we don’t just expand—
we will endure.
This year is not about rushing forward.
It’s about being READY to move forward.
RESPONSE — PERSONAL APPLICATION (5 min)
Ask the church to reflect quietly:
Where do I need strengthening?
What area of my life is God securing?
What small faithfulness is God asking of me right now?
Growth does not begin with more.
It begins with stronger.
