Introduction:

1. Recovery Must Be Pursued.

8 So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.

2: to find or employ measures to obtain or accomplish: SEEK 〈pursue a goal〉

In order to pursue your recovery its going to take considerable effort.

Many people get caught up in the social aspect and don’t understand steps or service.

Still other people may get caught up in the steps and ignore the fellowship and service part. Some people get so focused on “fixing themselves” they don’t think about anything else.

Still others find they get recognition for their service and no nothing of the fellowship or the personal growth aspects.

To work this simple program at it is suggested seems to be harder then great acts of strength or engineering.

One of the chief reasons it is so hard is because we all are learning the spiritual art of surrender.

2. The first law of Life recovery is surrender.

1 Corinthians 1:25 NKJV

25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

One of the main reasons we struggle with surrender is because we are living with the illusion of control.

The only part of control most of us have seen is the part where we are out of control.

We are so out of control most of us cannot see that we since we are out of control we are also reckless.

When we hear that, “our lives have become unmanageable,” it is an absolute shock to our system. We are Just in a little bit of trouble it is not quite as bad as all that is it?

The simple answer is it is not quite as bad as all that...

It is much worse!

While we have been rationalizing and justifying our behaviors that come from our “Isims” have been boring a hole through our life like an oil drill bit.

The only people that don’t see the tunnel that others fear is a bottomless pit is us.

All the while, we want to fight giving control of our lives to God. (It makes sense, since you know we have done such a stellar job as we had control..

Why do we struggle so?

One reason may be is that we are afraid it might work and then we would have to admit with all of our intellect, gifts and talents we could not help ourselves!

Is it so bad to be a witness to the Lord and His power to rescue us?

Of course not!

The truth is we want to be His witnesses if it means we get to earn it or perform, but to just surrender!?

The first step is simply to admit that our best efforts to fix ourselves or help ourselves have all come to nothing.

Once we have arrived at the truth that we are powerless to help ourselves, heal ourselves, or even make our wrecks right without the help of the Lord, the only thing that makes sense is to give my whole life to Him!

None of us have surrendered to the Lord with anything that looked even close to perfection!

Those of us with the most time in the room have just gotten are training wheels removed.

3. The promise is if we pursue we will recover all!

When our man David got this word his whole band where in a dark place just like you and I.

All we have to loose is isolation and despair.

We need to leave the discontent of the cave we have been hiding in.

We don’t even peruse the enemy, on the contrary we persue the Lord and the light of His love!
