The Lamb Is Already Reigning
Primary Scripture Reading
Text: Revelation 5 (KJV)
(Additional references for clarity when needed: Daniel 7:9–14; John 1:29; Hebrews 1:1–4; Colossians 1:15–18)
Introduction
Introduction
The book of Revelation is not a book of fear, chaos, or speculation—it is a revelation of Jesus Christ. Before seals are opened, trumpets are sounded, or judgments are poured out, Scripture intentionally pulls back the veil of heaven to show us who is already on the throne.
Revelation 5 is not future tense; it is present reality. This chapter establishes authority before adversity. God does not introduce the conflict of the earth until He first establishes the control of heaven. The church was never meant to face tribulation, persecution, deception, or shaking with uncertainty about who reigns. The Lamb is not preparing to reign—He is already reigning.
John is taken into the throne room not to see coming disasters, but to see the One who holds the title deed of history. Everything that follows in Revelation flows out of chapter 5. If this chapter is misunderstood, the rest of the book will be read through fear instead of faith.
Key word focus (from Strong’s Concordance, meanings only):
Lamb – speaks of a sacrificial victim, one slain but alive
Worthy – deserving authority, having legal right
Book / Scroll – a written record, a title deed, something sealed and secured
Reign – to rule, govern, exercise authority
This study is designed to anchor the church in Christ’s present reign so that what is revealed later never produces fear, but confidence.
Heaven Is Ordered Before Earth Is Addressed
Heaven Is Ordered Before Earth Is Addressed
Scripture
1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
Explanation
The scene opens with God seated on the throne. The throne is not vacant, threatened, or contested. God is already ruling. The scroll in His right hand represents authority, ownership, and destiny. In ancient culture, sealed scrolls often represented title deeds—legal documents determining ownership and inheritance.
The question is not whether God has authority. The question is who is worthy to execute what is written.
Notice that heaven pauses. No one rushes forward. No angel claims authority. No elder steps up. Power is not assumed in heaven—it is granted by worthiness.
This establishes an essential truth for the church: authority flows from heaven downward, not from earth upward. Before anything unfolds on the earth, heaven confirms who has the right to govern history.
Cross-reference
Daniel 7:13–14 shows the Son of Man receiving dominion, glory, and a kingdom from the Ancient of Days—not taking it by force, but receiving it by decree.
No Created Being Is Worthy
No Created Being Is Worthy
Scripture
3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. 4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.
Explanation
John weeps—not out of fear, but out of the apparent absence of redemption. If the scroll remains sealed, then injustice continues, suffering remains unresolved, and God’s purposes stay unfulfilled.
This moment reveals a profound truth: no created being can redeem creation. Not angels. Not governments. Not religion. Not humanity itself.
This strips away every false hope the church is tempted to place in systems, leaders, or movements. Salvation, restoration, and authority do not come from within creation—they must come from outside it.
This is why end-times teaching rooted in political fear or earthly rescue always fails. No one in heaven or earth is qualified to rule history except the One God appoints.
The Lion Is Revealed as the Lamb
The Lion Is Revealed as the Lamb
Scripture
5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. 6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
Explanation
John hears “Lion,” but he sees “Lamb.”
This is one of the most powerful revelations in all of Scripture. Jesus conquers not by domination, but by sacrifice. He prevails not through violence, but through obedience unto death.
The Lamb appears slain, yet standing. Death did not remove Him from authority—it revealed it. The wounds did not disqualify Him; they qualified Him.
The phrase “hath prevailed” indicates a completed victory. The battle is not pending. The Lamb has already overcome.
Cross-references
John 1:29 – “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
Hebrews 1:3 – After purging sins, He sat down at the right hand of Majesty.
The Scroll Is Taken—Authority Is Transferred
The Scroll Is Taken—Authority Is Transferred
Scripture
7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
Explanation
This is not rebellion. This is delegation.
The Father entrusts the Son with the unfolding of history. This moment fulfills Jesus’ own words: “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”
The church must understand this: Jesus is not waiting to receive authority at His return. He already possesses it. His return is not to gain control, but to manifest what is already His.
This corrects the false idea that darkness is currently winning. The scroll is already in the Lamb’s hand.
Heaven Responds With Worship, Not Panic
Heaven Responds With Worship, Not Panic
Scripture
8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. 9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; 10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Explanation
When the Lamb takes the scroll, heaven erupts in worship. Worship is heaven’s response to Christ’s authority. Fear is never present in the throne room.
Notice the language of the song:
“Thou hast redeemed us”
“Thou hast made us kings and priests”
“We shall reign on the earth”
This is identity language. Authority is shared with the redeemed. The church is not positioned as spectators of judgment, but as participants in Christ’s reign.
All Creation Acknowledges His Rule
All Creation Acknowledges His Rule
Scripture
11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; 12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. 13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. 14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
Explanation
Angels, elders, every creature in heaven and earth join the declaration. The volume increases, not because authority is uncertain, but because it is undeniable.
The final word of the chapter is “Amen.” Not confusion. Not fear. Agreement.
This establishes the tone for everything that follows. What unfolds in Revelation is not chaos—it is controlled. It is not Satan running loose—it is Christ executing judgment, mercy, and redemption according to divine authority.
Application
Application
The church must stop reading the future as if Jesus is absent. Revelation 5 teaches us how to face adversity with confidence:
When the world shakes, the throne does not.
When seals are opened, Christ is in control.
When fear rises, worship must rise higher.
Believers do not overcome by understanding timelines alone, but by understanding who reigns now. If Christ reigns now, then obedience replaces panic, faith replaces speculation, and endurance replaces escapism.
Prophetic Insight / Call to Action
Prophetic Insight / Call to Action
The Spirit is calling the church to shift perspective—from watching events to beholding the Lamb.
Before we interpret seals, we must see the Savior.
Before we fear judgment, we must know the Judge.
Before we prepare for hardship, we must stand in authority.
This series, From Behind the Veil, is not about decoding headlines. It is about unveiling Christ. A church anchored in His present reign cannot be shaken by future events.
