Ok.. here is what Paul says…

8 Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! Without us you have become kings! And would that you did reign, so that we might share the rule with you!

9 For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men. 10 We are fools

Was this the only Church he reminded of this

Text: 1 Cor 4:14:20

Context: Before we read… this letter that we are about to read is to a church in Corinth. It was a thriving city in every way, economically, religiously and sin, a large group of the people in this church we’re pagans before coming to Christ meaning.. they we’re worshipers of false Gods and into some some horrific sinful activity.
They were very pretty afluent… proud of their wisdom and and thought of themselves as the smart ones in the room. Let’s just say… they would have been a really tough church to Pastor :)
They are pretty good at talking the talk but don’t walk the walk, and def lack the fruit Paul is hoping to see in them.
Defiantly nothing like the Grace Place :)

1 Corinthians 4:20 ESV
For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in POWER.(Dunimus

The “kingdom of God” is a major theme of Jesus’ teaching in the Gospels. The linking of the kingdom with power recalls Jesus’ words: “I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power” (

WISDOM VS POWER
The question is not what we say, but what God is doing through us.
Gods power shows up as we step in to do the work he assigns.
This is His reminder to us that its his ability NOT ours.
People that Exemplify a Powerful life to Brag on

The Expositor’s Bible, Volume 5: Luke to Galatians Chapter IV: The Foolishness of Preaching

Paul justifies his rejection of philosophy or “wisdom” and his adoption of the simpler but more difficult method of stating fact on three grounds. The first is that God’s method had changed. For a time God had allowed the Greeks to seek Him by their own wisdom; now He presents Himself to them in the foolishness of the Cross (vers. 17–25). The second ground is that the wise do not universally respond to the preaching of the Cross, a fact which shows that it is not wisdom that preaching appeals to (vers. 26–31). And his third ground is that he feared lest, if he used “wisdom” in presenting the Gospel, his hearers might be only superficially attracted by his persuasiveness and not profoundly moved by the intrinsic power of the Cross (2:1–5).

People wanted POWER - they wanted to see Jesus get down off the cross with REAL Power
But Jesus showed his real proof of divinity by staying on the cross -this message was foolishness to them, a stumbling block that they could not get over.
Yet it was the power of God unto salvation.
He used his Power to draw men out of sin and into himself through the resurection power of the cross.
But power to sympathise with humanity
To make men’s sorrows His own,
To sacrifice self,
To give all for the needs of His creatures.
To them that believe in the God there revealed, the Cross is the power of God. It is this love of God that overpowers them and makes it impossible for them to resist Him. To a God who makes Himself known to them in self-sacrifice they quickly and delightedly yield themselves.
Gifts of The Spirit 1 Cor 12 4-11
Paul Reminds us where our Power comes from

20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
