The Messiah’s Credentials

The Lord gave an abundance of evidence to prove Jesus was the Messiah.
The Son (John 8:18), the Father and Spirit (John 5:37, Matthew 3:16-17), John the Baptist (John 1:6-7), the works of Jesus (John 5:36), and the Scriptures (John 5:39), the disciples (John 15:27), and the multitude of changed lives all bore witness that Jesus was the Messiah and Savior of the world.
This is why you see phrases like this in the Scriptures: “They were astonished at His teaching, for His word possessed authority”. “No one ever spoke like this man.” “What sort of man is this, that even the winds and sea obey Him?” “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”

The Pharisee’s Accusation

The Pharisees said that Christ got His power from Satan. Jesus said it was foolish to think Satan was casting out Satan.
Christ said that only one with more power than Satan can cast out Satan.
See Acts 19:13-16...
Luke 4:36 “And they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!””

The Warning from Christ

All sin and blasphemy can be forgiven except the blasphemy against the Spirit.
In the OT, “blasphemy” always means to insult God, either by attacking him directly or mocking him indirectly. Either way the glory and honor of God are lessened, so blasphemy is the opposite of praise.
1 Timothy 1:13 “though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief,”
Two of the Spirit’s main roles is to convict the world of sin and to bear witness about Christ.
John 16:8 “And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:”
John 15:26 ““But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.”
The blasphemy against the Spirit is determined and hardhearted unbelief, the rejection of Christ even though the Spirit has revealed to you all of the necessary evidence to convince you of who Christ is and your need of Him.
Mark 3:29–30 “but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”— for they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.””
Acts 7:51 ““You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you.”
See Hebrews 6:4-6...
Proverbs 29:1 “He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck, will suddenly be broken beyond healing.”
Don’t reject the Spirit’s work in your heart, but receive the gift of Heaven! Repent of your many sins and trust in Christ and He will forgive you and save you from ALL of your sins! Behold, today is the day of salvation! Turn to Him and be saved!
