What he did: Co-authored The Privileged Planet (intelligent design–friendly) and advocated design-friendly ideas.

Consequences:

Denied tenure at Iowa State University

Many colleagues testified his ID views influenced the decision

Universities claim it was publication record—but internal documents and colleagues suggested ideology played a role.

Dover Case

In 2004, a school board in Dover, Pennsylvania required teachers to read a statement to students saying:

Evolution is a theory, not a fact

Intelligent Design is an alternative explanation

Students should consider other views

Parents sued the school board.

A U.S. federal court ruled that teaching Intelligent Design in public school biology class violated the Constitution because it was judged to be religious advocacy, not science.

The case was called Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District (2005).
