LETS PRAY…

Good afternoon…
My name is Tony Carter, I am the husband of Nancy’s granddaughter, Victoria.
I am honored to be here today, to celebrate the life of Nancy Lee Richey…
As I read in her obituary, Nancy was a mother, a grandmother, and a great grandmother.
Toward the end of her life, she would get visits by her great grandchildren…
They would come and visit her, paint her nails, pass balloons back and forth, and ask her off the wall questions…which she welcomed…
When her great grandkids where around…she would light up…reach out…and hug them tightly…
Here in a moment, we are going to hear about how incredible of a Grandmother Nancy was as well.
To these two groups of people Nancy carried the title “Granny”…and she carried it well…and lived up to it well…
But first, I want to focus on a title that only 2 men get to call her…MOM
There is a special bond between mother and son…
As a son, your mother is the first woman that you love and protect…
Nancy had this bond with her 2 sons…
In Ephesians 6, the apostle Paul echoes a command to the Church that was given all the way back when Moses stood before God on MT SINAI…
“Honor thy father and mother”
Her son Brad, who has been Nancy’s primary care these last many years, has strived to be obedient to that scripture…
To honor his mother in every way…
Seeing that she got the best care, that she was comfortable, well stocked up on life savers mints and bubblegum, and that she had nothing to worry about…just enjoying her life and family!
Brad…as a man who has observed you care for your mother all these years…
You have set an everlasting example for the men in your family…
For how to honor your mother and father…to bear their burdens…to support them…to carry them at times…
GOD HAS BEEN GLORIFIED THROUGH YOUR SERVICE TO YOUR MOTHER AND FATHER…
This is a man who loves his mother dearly…
Brad asked me to share the love he had for her with you today…
Please listen as I read a letter from Brad…
And hear a faithful son honor and celebrate his wonderful mother …

From Brad:

My parents instilled in me that life was a gift, that was to be lived to the full.  As a young man I was often impressed with my mother’s energy and enthusiasm. She loved music and dancing.  As an RCA employee we had quite the sound system and record collection.  She was a competitive bowler as a teenager and loved the outdoors and sports.  She would work all week and then pack us for a weekend of camping, hiking and water skiing to return home to unpack us and return to work.
As we grew older those same weeks were filled with sports practices and games that were attended.  I can remember jumping out of football or baseball uniforms with the RV and boat loaded sitting in the parking lot and making the mad dash to the lake.
She was an avid water skier and taught me to slalom by the age of 9.  No matter the sport mom was almost always a team Mom and definitely my number one fan.  Her voice could be heard across high school stadiums with her southern drawl.
Mom was always involved and always willing to help anyone in need.  Sometimes she was better friends with my friends, than I was.  My parents would divorce and she raised my brother and I alone and what a job that was.  We never wanted for anything, and she was always there for us good or bad.
I was amazed by the outpouring of classmates that heard of her passing and shared memories I had even forgotten, mostly remembering what sweet lady she was.  Her grandchildren were her world, and she loved when she could have them overnight or for the weekend.
Later in life her health would change her lifestyle, but it couldn’t dampen her attitude and love for those around her.  She was always surrounded by so many friends no matter where she was.  She will truly be missed.  I know one day we will be united because she taught us, like her parents taught her that God is the source of this life we have and it is a gift that should be cherished.
That is the woman we have all come to celebrate today…
A hard working, supportive, loving, fun, vibrant, and faithful woman…
An incredible mother and grandmother…
I told you earlier that we would take a moment to celebrate how incredible of a grandmother Nancy was…
Im going to ask Nancy’s Grandson (Josh) to come up and share some memories of Nancy and to celebrate the life she lived as faithful follower of Jesus.
(JOSH COMES UP)
As we conclude our service today, the family of Nancy Richey would like to thank you for celebrating her life with us.
