If love does not envy, why can God be jealous?
If love does not envy, why can God be jealous?
Is Envying someone a sin?
How can you stop being envious of someone?
Why is Envy unloving to others?
Why is Envy unloving to God?
Why is Envy unloving to ourselves?
Envy! Envy is the reverse side of a coin called vanity. Nobody is ever envious of others who is not first proud of himself.
John Robert Walmsley Stott (English Preacher)
The cure for envy lies in living under a constant sense of the divine presence, worshipping God and communing with him all the day long, however long the day may seem.
Charles Spurgeon
Proverbs 14:30 “A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.”
Exodus 20:17 ““You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.””
James 4:1–5 “What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”?”
Who are some biblical characters who were envious?
1. Saul 2. David. 3. Cain 4.
Contentment is the opposite of Envy. It is how we as Christians can keep from sin.
