Chrysostom
Christ did not receive glory; He unveiled it.
The light comes from Him, not from without.
“He showed what He was inwardly, and revealed the splendor hidden beneath the veil of flesh.”
Augustine
Moses + Elijah = whole OT pointing to Christ.
“They appear and vanish, but Christ remains.”
Meaning:
The Old Covenant testifies, but yields authority to Christ alone
Leo the Great
The Transfiguration strengthens the disciples for the scandal of the crucifixion.
“He revealed His glory before His suffering, that the offense of the cross might be removed from their hearts.”
Theme: ➡ The cross will not contradict His glory—it will reveal
Origen
Disciples must pass from hearing Moses to hearing Christ.
Christ is now the hermeneutical center of Scripture.
➡ The Father reorders authority: Law → Christ Prophets → Christ
