What is the Gospel?

How i came to this topic

the good thing about preaching is the amount of different topics you can preach about.

The bad thing is that there are so many topics to preach on. Which one do you choose?

I had the same issue getting ready for this sermon i couldn’t think of what should i preach on and what would be beneficial to the church. Then i remembered. I can preach on the most important thing which is the foundation, the source, the stone of our salvation which is the gospel. I will be preaching on that today. in vocalizing the sermon topic. it is “What is the gospel.”

Now what is the gospel?

We all know what it is but have we rlly thought about it. I bet if i ask anyone of you, you can give me the answer of what it is saying, the gospel is the good news that jesus christ was born into the world, died for our sins, and resurrected. so if we believe in him we will be saved. As it says in

John 3:16 ““For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16 16 Ибо так возлюбил Бог мир, что отдал Сына Своего Единородного, дабы всякий верующий в Него, не погиб, но имел жизнь вечную. 17 Ибо не послал Бог Сына Своего в мир, чтобы судить мир, но чтобы мир спасен был чрез Него.

That is the golden verse of the bible. Everytime any of you kids gets older you say this verse before you go into a higher group from kids group to teens group.

But what does the gospel mean when we dive deep into it. It gets so normalized to the point that it in a sense just loses its importance we all say jesus died for me. it becomes the Lords Prayer when we pray it and dont even think about the beauty and importance of the words that are in that prayer.

so lets dive in.

The Gospel, in greek it is εὐαγγέλιον (euangelion) which simply means good news.

Now what is so good about the good news? what is the good news? to answer that question we need to go back to the beginning.

God created the heavens and the earth,

Psalm 33:6–9 “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.”

Psalm 32:6 6 Словом Господа сотворены небеса, и духом уст Его - все воинство их: 7 Он собрал, будто груды, морские воды, положил бездны в хранилищах. 8 Да боится Господа вся земля; да трепещут пред Ним все живущие во вселенной, 9 ибо Он сказал, - и сделалось; Он повелел, - и явилось.

He made it good,

Genesis 1:31 “And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.”

God created a beautiful world with only good in it the heavens with only good in it. But God did something very special He gave His creatures free will. something that is very good when it goes right and awfully terrible when it goes wrong, but that we The Only Way, to create a world where we can freely choose to love Him. Do you think everyone obeyed the good obeyed God? No, satan wanted to be like God and was jealous of God and because of that he was thrown out of heaven out of the dwelling place of God.

Isaiah 14:12–15 ““How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit.”

Isaiah 14:12 12 Как упал ты с неба, денница, сын зари! разбился о землю, попиравший народы. 13 А говорил в сердце своем: "взойду на небо, выше звезд Божиих вознесу престол мой и сяду на горе в сонме богов, на краю севера; 14 взойду на высоты облачные, буду подобен Всевышнему". 15 Но ты низвержен в ад, в глубины преисподней.

Then satan snuck into the garden of eden in the form of a snake and tempted eve and adam and eve sinned against God by eating the forbidden fruit.

Isaiah 59:2 “but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.”

and sin entered the world, Murder, Jealousy, Lying and all other sorts of evil entered into the world and we are all guilty under sin we are all sinners.

Isaiah 53:6 “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

Now i explained the fall. at this moment we are separated from God like an iceberg split and they are have floated away from each other.

How can we be reunited with God?

This is where Jesus comes in he is our mediator

Because we have

Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

Romans 3:23 “потому что все согрешили и лишены славы Божией,”

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 6:23 “Ибо возмездие за грех - смерть, а дар Божий - жизнь вечная во Христе Иисусе, Господе нашем.”

If we deserve death how can we escape it? well we need a sacrifice.

a lamb sacrifice or what kind of sacrifice?

We need a righteous and pure sacrifice.

Who will be this sacrifice because no one is righteous to be a sacrifice for our sins?

Jesus Christ humbled himself and God took on flesh and became a man.

Philippians 2:5–8 “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

Philippians 2:5–8 “Ибо в вас должны быть те же чувствования, какие и во Христе Иисусе: Он, будучи образом Божиим, не почитал хищением быть равным Богу; но уничижил Себя Самого, приняв образ раба, сделавшись подобным человекам и по виду став как человек; смирил Себя, быв послушным даже до смерти, и смерти крестной.”

He wasn’t forced to go and die on the cross but gave it on his own accord.

John 10:17–18 “For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.””

John 10:17–18 “Потому любит Меня Отец, что Я отдаю жизнь Мою, чтобы опять принять ее. Никто не отнимает ее у Меня, но Я Сам отдаю ее. Имею власть отдать ее и власть имею опять принять ее. Сию заповедь получил Я от Отца Моего.”

He took it on his own accord.

For this righteous priest Jesus Christ with was pure died for our sins

Hebrews 7:26–27 “For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.”

Hebrews 7:26–27 “Таков и должен быть у нас Первосвященник: святой, непричастный злу, непорочный, отделенный от грешников и превознесенный выше небес, Который не имеет нужды ежедневно, как те первосвященники, приносить жертвы сперва за свои грехи, потом за грехи народа, ибо Он совершил это однажды, принеся в жертву Себя Самого.”

If we read isaiah 53 we see the death of jesus christ

Isaiah 53:1–12 “Кто поверил слышанному от нас, и кому открылась мышца Господня? Ибо Он взошел пред Ним, как отпрыск и как росток из сухой земли; нет в Нем ни вида, ни величия; и мы видели Его, и не было в Нем вида, который привлекал бы нас к Нему. Он был презрен и умален пред людьми, муж скорбей и изведавший болезни, и мы отвращали от Него лице свое; Он был презираем, и мы ни во что ставили Его. Но Он взял на Себя наши немощи и понес наши болезни; а мы думали, что Он был поражаем, наказуем и уничижен Богом. Но Он изъязвлен был за грехи наши и мучим за беззакония наши; наказание мира нашего было на Нем, и ранами Его мы исцелились. Все мы блуждали, как овцы, совратились каждый на свою дорогу: и Господь возложил на Него грехи всех нас. Он истязуем был, но страдал добровольно и не открывал уст Своих; как овца, веден был Он на заклание, и как агнец пред стригущим его безгласен, так Он не отверзал уст Своих. От уз и суда Он был взят; но род Его кто изъяснит? ибо Он отторгнут от земли живых; за преступления народа Моего претерпел казнь. Ему назначали гроб со злодеями, но Он погребен у богатого, потому что не сделал греха, и не было лжи в устах Его. Но Господу угодно было поразить Его, и Он предал Его мучению; когда же душа Его принесет жертву умилостивления, Он узрит потомство долговечное, и воля Господня благоуспешно будет исполняться рукою Его. На подвиг души Своей Он будет смотреть с довольством; чрез познание Его Он, Праведник, Раб Мой, оправдает многих и грехи их на Себе понесет. Посему Я дам Ему часть между великими, и с сильными будет делить добычу, за то, что предал душу Свою на смерть, и к злодеям причтен был, тогда как Он понес на Себе грех многих и за преступников сделался ходатаем.”

The Righteous died for the Unrighteous.

Not did He only die, but he was raised from the dead.

Now us believing that yes jesus died for my sins and was raised from the dead. that is what unites us to God.

Because we are joined in the family of God

Jesus becomes our brother.

Hebrews 2:11–12 “For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.””

Hebrews 2:11–12 “Ибо и освящающий и освящаемые, все - от Единого; поэтому Он не стыдится называть их братиями, говоря: возвещу имя Твое братиям Моим, посреди церкви воспою Тебя.”

Galatians 3:26 “for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.”

We join the family of God when we have faith in Him and believe in what Christ has done for us.

in other words put its grace.

Justice is we get what we deserve.

Mercy is we dont get what we deserve.

Grace is we get what we dont deserve.

God the father fulfills justice by having a punishment for sins which is jesus christ who is the willing sacrifice. He is merciful because he forgave us and we didnt get death to give us grace something we will never deserve.

This is the gospel.

It is the good news.

God came down and dwelled among us taught us loved us died for us in the form of a man Jesus Christ.

Let us Worship Him and always remember the beauty of the gospel and think about how important it is to our faith. it is the foundation.
