THE WORK OF THE EVANGELIST

Matthew 9:37–38 “Then He said to His disciples,The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.””
To His disciples- He is saying this to you
Doing the work of the evangelist is the heart of God.
2 Timothy 4:5 “But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
You do not have to be an Evangelist to do the work of an evangelist.
Everyone is called to do the work of an evangelist.
Doing the work of an evangelist was connected to fulfilling his ministry as a Pastor.

WHAT IT ISN’T

THERE IS NO SCRIPTURE IN THE BIBLE THAT TELLS US TO GO SAVE SOULS
Mark 16:15 “And He said to them,Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

WHAT IT IS- EVANGELISM IS THE ACT OF BEING A WITNESS FOR CHRIST

PREACHING THE GOSPEL. YOU ARE BAPTIZED IN THE HOLY GHOST TO BE A WITNESS
Romans 10:14How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”
DEMONSTRATE IN POWER- SIGNS WILL FOLLOW EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES
Acts 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.””
DEMONSTRATE THROUGH YOUR LIFE- YOU WITNESS THROUGH YOUR TRANSFORMED LIFE
John 13:35 “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.””

TAKE THE BURDEN OFF- GOD DOES THE SAVING

Some day, but what if they do not get saved? And are fearful to go out
Romans 10:15–17 “And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
IT IS NOT YOUR JOB TO SAVE. IT IS YOUR JOB TO PLANT SEEDS. GOD DOES THE SAVING.
1 Corinthians 3:6–7I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.”
John 16:8–11 “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.”
No one can come to me unless the Father first draws him
So you present the gospel, give the word of knowledge, command the healing etc...
But it is God who brings increase to the Kingdom.
You are just the vessel. You are His hands and feet. He operates through the body. Which is why we are commanded to __

APOLOGETICS (the ability to respond to objections and factually defend your faith)

Do not feel like you have to be able to answer every question and be the greatest apologist to lead someone to Christ.
What if I can’t answer a question, I feel like I don’t know enough etc.… YOU DO HAVE ENOUGH
Your born again! Every believer should be able to present the gospel on a basic level because you should know the gospel if your saved
You have the Holy Spirit! He leads, guides, and teaches you, and has anointed you with power.
The Bible says study to show yourself approved and:
1 Peter 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;”
There is a place for apologetics, weather you are pulling from the word or other information to defend your faith.
However:
APOLOGETICS APPEALS TO INTELLECT- faith
THE WORD (gospel presentation) APPEALS TO THE CONSCIENCE- conviction
Your goal in evangelism is to appeal to the conscience, not only the intellect of a person.
This is more speaking of presenting the gospel as opposed to words of knowledge etc, that is power evangelism.
We should always be walking in power evangelism. Jesus preached and did signs and wonders. (preaching under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit is also power evangelism) its the anointing that draws them in. the anointing is also upon your words
I myself was set on fire from an encounter. But the Lord had to teach me himself because no one accurately presented the gospel to me.

THE BASICS OF EVANGELISM

2 THINGS BREAK DOWN THE INTELLECTUAL WALLS AND PRIDE OF A PERSON
Power
The Law (tonight we will focus on the law)
Acts 28:23 “So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening.
Prophets- builds faith in the word of God
The Law- convicts the conscience

USING THE LAW

Romans 2:15 “who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them)
The moral sense or faculty by which a person distinguishes right from wrong.
The internal awareness of moral obligation or responsibility.
The inward principle that approves or condemns one’s actions, motives, or character.
A sense of guilt or innocence arising from moral judgment.
The subject of sin within Christianity is certainly a foundational one. Human depravity is an essential doctrine of the Christian faith. After all, if a man does not understand his own depravity apart from Christ, how could he come to saving faith in Christ?
Mark 2:17 “When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.””
The law shows you your sickness
1 Timothy 1:9 the law is not made for the righteous but for sinners
They need to be CONVICTED they are sick- a sinner
Why would a sick person who “feels” fine take the cure unless they are shown proof they are sick?
Romans 3:19–20 “Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
If I approach an impenitent sinner and say, “Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins,” it will be foolishness and offensive to him. It will be foolishness because it won’t make sense. The Bible says that “the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness” (1 Corinthians 1:18). And it will be offensive because I’m insinuating he’s a sinner when he doesn’t think he is. As far as he’s concerned, there are a lot of people far worse than him.
Take them through the law- you are activating their conscience because people are righteous in their own eyes

REVEALING GRACE

THE GOSPEL IS THE GOOD NEWS! The law is bad news. Now bring the good news.
Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”
John 5:24 ““Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”
Acts 16:30–31 “And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.””
