THINGS YOU THOUGHT THE BIBLE SAID

OSAS: After the initial moment of faith, salvation is eternally secure regardless of future choices or actions.
KINGDOM KEY:
Salvation is a dynamic PROCESS involving human free will AND divine grace, where one can choose to apostatize and walk away from Christ or endure in faith to the end.
I. BIBLICAL EVIDENCE
A. APOSTASY
Hebrews 6:4 ESV
For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit,
Hebrews 6:5 ESV
and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come,
Hebrews 6:6 ESV
and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.
APOSTASY:
A DELIBERATE REJECTION OF CHRIST AFTER HAVING BEEN IN RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM, WHERE REPENTANCE NOW BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE.
B. WILLFUL REBELLION
Hebrews 10:26 ESV
For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
Hebrews 10:27 ESV
but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.
Hebrews 10:28 ESV
Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses.
Hebrews 10:29 ESV
How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?
PERSISTENT WILLFUL REBELLION CREATES A SITUATION WHERE THERE NO LONGER REMAINS ANY SACRIFICE FOR YOUR SIN.
C. ESCAPING CORRUPTION ONLY TO RETURN
2 Peter 2:20 ESV
For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.
2 Peter 2:21 ESV
For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.
2 Peter 2:22 ESV
What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”
RETURNING TO OUR SIN AFTER HAVING BEEN SAVED CREATES A FATE WORSE THAN IGNORANCE - SHOWING THAT SALVATION CAN INDEED BE FORFEITED.
II. SALVATION AS SYNERGY
SYNERGY = WORKING WITH
Philippians 2:12 ESV
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,
Philippians 2:13 ESV
for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
WE ARE WORKING OUT WHAT GOD IS WORKING IN
KINGDOM KEY:
IN SALVATION, WE HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY AND GOD HAS A ROLE TO PLAY.
GOD WILL NOT DO OUR PART. AND, WE CANNOT DO HIS PART.
SALVATION IS A PROCESS OF SYNERGY!
Matthew 24:13 ESV
But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
1 Corinthians 10:12 ESV
Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.
1 Corinthians 9:27 ESV
But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
THE BIBLE’S TEACHING AND THEREFORE THE TEACHING OF THE CHURCH IS:
PERSEVERANCE IN FATIH IS ESSENTIAL FOR SALVATION.
APOSTASY IS POSSILBE.
