What would have happened if Paul didn’t make his midnight ride? How would the militia hear the call? How would the battles of Lexington and Concord have faired? Would there have been a shot heard around the world? Here in Romans the Apostle Paul building on the previous passage explaining the need of evangelism. How will they believe if they don’t hear? Today we will look at How do they hear, Who does the Preaching, and how are the results.

II. How do they Hear (v14a,b)

A. Calling on the Name of the Lord

(Gen 4:26, Gen 12:8, 13:4, 21:33, 26:25, Ps 116:13, 17) Not a new concept to the New testament, the OT was full of it.

The Act of Calling is normally closely linked to worship.

B. What is Belief?

Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible - “Belief, Believe. Conviction based on testimony that something is true or that someone is reliable. As used in the Bible, to believe in God involves the element of trust, not mere acknowledgment of his existence.”

There is an Element of Trust here, not just acknowledgment.

True Belief is not only knowing who The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are, (Jam 2:19) what Jesus has done, but resting in the fact that Jesus is the only one who can get you from here to There

C. What do they Hear?

Paul’s Ministry consisted of Preaching Christ and Him Crucified (1 Cor:2:1-5)
