Ground Rules

Be Humble - We will not agree on everything.
Be Teachable - We all need to grow & no one is right on everything
Be Reasonable - Not everything is worth dying over
Be Worshipful - Every truth is meant to cultivate deep affections for God

Having Eyes to See: Observing Literary Features

-Reading the text over and over by itself isn’t the same as perception.
-Probably one of the biggest reasons people struggle with reading their Bible (they read without perceiving - not even talking about spiritual perceiving)
-Perceiving doesn’t equal interpreting, but you can’t interpret without perceiving.
-Matthew 18:20
Matthew 18:20 KJV 1900
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
-The Bible communicates meaning not only by what it says but also by how it says it.

Repetition

-When a word, phrase, or concept is used more than once in a passage.
-Repetition can emphasize a key term (determining significant terms) Isaiah 6:3
Isaiah 6:3 KJV 1900
And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: The whole earth is full of his glory.
-Repetition can tie a unit together
-Repetition can break a unit apart (structure)
-Repetition can create an inclusio
-Repetition can also create a chiasm
