Everlasting Love

Last week we spent time with the first three verses of 1 Corinthians 13. This week we will attempt to finish our look into Love. We will look at 1 Corinthians 13:8–13. Today we will futher expound this passage of scripture by look at verses 8-13. Last week if you remember we spoke about are we people who Love or are we people who Posture in Love but never really understand what Love is or how perfect the Love of the Father really is. I know we talk about Paul and how God so loved him He topped him on the road to Damascus to persecute the Church. We also spoke about the woman who the Pharasies and Saducees were trying to trick Jesus in to pronouncing judgement. Jesus did the very opposite in stead of announcing a judgement, He stooped down and let love abound more and more over. Jesus could have called the sins of each person their out to everyone present but He loved each of them so much he was compelled by Love to just allow them to depart without the knowledge of their sins comming forth. Do we Love like this or do we Love like the carnal man in the flesh, we should Love in the spirit just like the example of Jesus.
“8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. 13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
Point 1 Temporary VS Eternal
Lets look at how this passage start out. Love Never Fails. Jesus make a statement that we often take forward to the first 7 verses but lets keep it attached to the last few verses and see the difference it make when we look at them.
Jesus states LOVE NEVER FAILS, He immediately uses a conjunction to tie these three simple words to what is coming next.
Here Paul delineates things that are temporary from those things which are everlasting. Look at what he states here. Where there are prophecies they will fail, whether there are tongues they will cease, and where there is knowledge it will vanish.
Fail
Cease
Vanish
There is somethings common about these three things. First look at these, these are all Gifts. Some people actually seek some gifts above others, like tongues and knowledge.
Guess what it does not matter your gift will FAIL
Remember what was said in the beginning LOVE NEVER FAILS
When Jesus comes back to receive the church all these gifts will end, If you go to be with the Lord before his return your gift will cease. The things of this world cannot and do not remain with you in your spiritual man, they are incomplete here in the flesh. They will become perfect and then you will no longer prophecy in part, or have partial knowledge or speak in tongues that will end.
This is an eschatological thing, things in and of this world do not meet the standard for Heaven, If Gifts from the Father don’t meet the standard, where does that put us?
The First Letter to the Corinthians iii. Encomium in Praise of Love’s Endurance in Comparison with Other Gifts of the Spirit, 13:8–13

these cases, “and therefore in all cases, these are manifestations of the Spirit for the church’s present eschatological existence, in which God’s new people live ‘between the times’—between the inauguration of the End through the death and resurrection of Jesus with the subsequent outpouring of the Spirit and the final consummation when God will be ‘all in all

Things we have here are Temporary
What we receive at Judgement are Eternal
Point 2 Love Changes Us
Verse 10
Wow look at these words behind this conjunction. “when completeness comes”
“what is impart disappears”
All of the old (fleshly, woldly) has failed, or ceased, therefore it must Vanish.
GONE
It is just like how he removed our transgressions when we gave our life to him.
Psalm 103:12 “12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.”
It is just like this if is partial it cannot go into Heaven
We know in part because this body is unable to know in full.
All of these things are partial’s just like your dental implant its a partial, meaning it not all your teeth it is a portion of them. My HOPE thru My FAITH, Seeks Perfection.
As a child what do we do we act like a child
as we grow and mature we no longer do those same sort of things we do not make childish mistakes
2 Chronicles 7:13–14 “13 When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
Christ declare that it will take faith and LOVE for us to be able to live for him amoung tough times, When we humble ourselves that is when we love the greatest.
Love is the Key to that change as we mature in Christ our Love matures as well so we are able to Love more complete.
but we put away childish things and we change to become more like christ
We as christians when we Love we should talk differently we should act differently
even Adults in their later years are to perfect and only perfection Pure can enter the Gates of Heaven so we must be Changed.
Romans 12:2 “2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
But still these thing are in part they are not perfected or in their fullness no matter how hared we try or how Good we become.
Point 3 Perfection shall Come
we now see like looking into a mirror he says which is dimely and not in full, but he says then we shall see Face to face,
Our vision through faith is very dim compared to the future when we shall meet him face to face. The we will be seeing with the fullness of God not with the partial things through our faith which no matter how deep our strong our faith is it is limiting,
Then he states you will know as your know, God fully know each of us and when we are in His presence we will know in fullness or completeness, because there are no more hinderances the flesh is gone, we have pure and perfect hearts to love with, and our minds have been completely renewed.
we worked for sanctification while in this life but when we leave this life we will have glorification. Glorification can only come when all other things have passed away from us.
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
What we see here is only one of these things will move forward and remain with us and that is LOVE . We should be seeking how to Love as Jesus first loved us, with out reservation, with out cost, with out expectation, with out desirefor something in return
He loves us with purity, even when we are lost and undone he still loved us with purity and seeking the greatest things for us in His Love.
In closing
Point 1 Temporary vs Eternal
Point 2 Love Changes Us
Point 3 Perfection Shall Come
It is when we allow ourselves to fullfil the Command given by Jesus that we are moving in the direction of Perfection.
We must Love the Lord our God, with all our heart, mind, soul and stregnth,
Love your neighbor as yourself.
