Hebrews 10:22–25 NASB95
22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
Hebrews 10:22 NASB95
22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
We are approaching Lent in 18 days
Apart of lent is intentionally drawing near to God,
but we don’t have to wait until then to prepare our hearts.
Hebrews 10:19 NASB95
Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,
Being “washed with pure water” does not refer to Christian baptism, but to the Holy Spirit’s purifying a person’s life by means of the Word of God
John F. MacArthur Jr., The MacArthur Study Bible: New American Standard Bible. (Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson Publishers, 2006), Heb 10:22.
This is how we prepare heart hearts for the Lord, through the Holy Spirit washing us with the Word as a soap.
(Billy Graham- Soap Applied)
Hebrews 10:23 NASB95
23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;
This verse calls us to remember our confession of faith, remember what it is that draw us to the Lord
The perseverance of the saints, is the human side of eternal security. It is not something done to maintain salvation, but is rather an evidence of salvation
Hebrews 10:24 NASB95
24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,
We prepare our hearts in community!
If we realize it our not we are influenced by the ones around us.
Choose int to live the Holy Life spurs others around us to live that way. Even if they mock you, it still spurs them.
No law has ever been passed that can compel one moral being to love another, for by the very nature of it love must be voluntary. No one can be coerced or frightened into loving anyone.4
A. W. Tozer
We Are to hold each other accountable as well
That does not mean being all up in someone’s business and telling them what they need or don’t need to do.
Christians, you are to love one another, not because of the gain which you get from one another, but rather because of the good you can do to one another Christ’s “New Commandment”, Volume 51, Sermon #2936 - John 13:34, 35
Charles Spurgeon
We can be creative in finding ways to walk with a brother through life.
Hebrews 10:25 NASB95
25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
We are to battle against the temptation to be isolated in our walk, both as individuals and as a church body.
Just as the Lord never intended for man to walk alone, He never intended for the Church to remain isolated from each other.
D. Stamps (Fire Bible) The day of Christ’s return for his faithful followers is approaching (see article on The Rapture). As it does, we will increasingly face difficulties, opposition, persecutions and spiritual deception. Coming together regularly with other believers for worship, Christian companionship and Biblical instruction will provide the necessary encouragement to help each of us hold firmly to faith in Christ. It is the plan and expectation of Christ that believers grow in community with each other as we grow deeper in our relationship with him. Time together with other Christians will be a blessing to God as we worship him, a blessing to us through our deepened friendships and continued instruction and a blessing to the world because we will be better encouraged and equipped to spread Christ’s message among them.
We everyone of us prepares his Heart for worship, for consecration, for communion with a Holy God, that is when we set a community on fire for Jesus, and see what some like to call revival.
